Super easy to swap top half of key the secound part is a bit above my pay grade but got my key looking so much better for so cheap

This is a perfect replica of the original VW key fob minus the internal circuit board and RFID chip, which you can transfer from your original. I was able to get the key blank cut to match the original by taking it to a hardware store with up-to-date car key duplicator, and it was a free dupe because I brought my own blank (that came with the fob). Then I opened up the original fob, removed the circuit board and battery and transferred them to the new fob. I open up the upper part of the fob (removing a tiny phillips head screw) and removed the small glass ampule containing the RFID chip, then transferred that to the new fob with a dab of glue to hold it in place. After getting the new unit all together I tested it in my 2005 Jetta and it worked perfectly. Installing the RFID chip into the new fob and especially the process of reassembling the spring and latch for the switchblade action was the hardest part, and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone lacking mechanical understanding and the patience to keep trying until you get it right. It's probably possible to remove the RFID ampule without disassembling the upper case by fishing it out of a small hole if you know where to look and carefully pull it out with miniature tweezers. The ampule is glued in with a soft glue. The chip is read by circuitry around the ignition switch and the code number is relayed to the car's anti-theft security system that VW calls an immobilizer.

I bought this for the new buttons because mine were worn. I only swapped the bottom piece. I took the chip out. To program these, they require you to cut the key, program the button chip and program the immobilizer chip. I just wanted to make it look better. The key portion fits on the top of this, but it's a lot tighter than the original. No tools really required, but a screwdriver or something to pry the bottom apart and get the chip out will help. I looked at buying a full replacement, cut and programmed. They do it at a local company using the same thing and charge $178 for everything. Good to know that this is the same product. Pictures show how these two parts fit together if you're just looking for new buttons and your key works.

It does function for my 01 VW Golf. The key ring portion always breaks over time and it was a cheap solution to the annoyance of trying to keep track of a single key. However it isn't an exact match the chip isnt securely held in place it can rattle around in there. I may take it apart one more time and add some cushioning or glue... The whole thing appears to be just the slightest bit bigger just a 1mm but would be apprehensive about getting the blade cut, I just used the old one. It also doesn't have the rubber waterproofing gasket ring around it so hope the electronics continue to hold up in the rainy PNW.

Don't buy this. It is a complete junk. Looks ok at first, but when you try to fit the original printed board and key, it is not possible, unless you give effort and time to make it work eventually, but not guaranteed. There is no gasket to protect the circuit board from moisture, and you can not reuse the old one because the shell is designed without channel for the gasket. Stanchions which have to hold the circuit board are too thin and short, so the board can not be fixed properly. The 3 shell buttons are inaccurate inside and do not have good contact with the switches on the circuit board. Same applies for the panic button. The key is loose. In two words: nothing is right, nothing is close to original quality.

If you intend to get this and swap your pcb, battery, and the upper OEM physical key over, it will not fit. The tolerances are different than OEM. You will need to completely swap everything over into the replacement. Other than that it does what its supposed to.

Worked and fit perfectly. I expected some cheap 3d print feeling plastic, but this feels like the OEM key.

Very good for the price. The hardest part is removing the transponder from your older key because it glued down in a small pocket. First time I tried I brake the transponder on the original old key because I was inpatient and tried to pry it out. I also didn't know it made if glass tube which look like a small pill capsule. Luckily the spare non remote key also have a transponder. After slowly carved away the spare key to get to the transponder, everything else is plug and play. I would advise to watch a lot of Youtuber about this and you'll get the idea about being patient. Oh also make sure the replacement led indicator matches. If it locate in the middle of the key, find the same because the board inside is different shape if it locate at the end of the key fob. Good luck.
