The Tekonsha 90160 Primus IQ Brake Controller is an excellent trailer brake controller and a great value for the money. Installation was straightforward, especially with the plug-and-play wiring harness, and the unit mounted cleanly under the dash. What I really like is how smooth and responsive the proportional braking is. The controller automatically applies trailer brakes based on how hard you press the vehicle’s brakes, which makes towing feel much safer and more controlled.  The LED display is easy to read, and the diagnostics help confirm the trailer connection and braking activity. The boost feature is also very useful when towing heavier loads because it adds extra braking power when needed.  Overall, this controller is reliable, simple to set up, and works exactly as advertised. If you’re towing a trailer with electric brakes, the Primus IQ is a dependable choice that delivers smooth braking and great peace of mind on the road. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

It is really sensitive and as long as I put it on a lower setting it works great.

First, I don’t like the brake controllers that are basically just a knob which integrates into the dash. I don’t like giving up a power port or dash storage in order to fit something like that in. That brings me to the Tekonsha. It had great reviews and so I went with it. Installation was easy but I wish they had included something besides those aggravating flat screws. Lol. Connection was completely plug and play with their Jeep wiring harness that I bought separately. It all works perfectly and seems to nicely match the level of braking between my truck and my travel trailer. The trailer will slow or stop the truck by itself if I press the manual button, but when I press the brake pedal everything responds accordingly as it should. An LED readout shows the level of braking power at a given time. There’s going to be a little adjustment period where you’ll be tweaking the brakes’ timing and sensitivity. It’s the easiest thing to install ever. I like the plastic multi position bracket. It allows me to push it flat against the dash when I am not towing. It fits nicely in my Jeep Gladiator. I chose to put it under the steering wheel next to my right knee. I can look down and easily see it but it isn’t in my way. In summary it does exactly what it is supposed to do, and I’m happy that I chose it.

These brake controllers hit the sweet spot of price and performance. All the more expensive controllers give you are generally pointless options (multiple trailers, 360 mounting, fancy screen, etc). Even people like me with multiple trailers and vehicles will probably NEVER use any of these extra features. In the end, they just waste your money and make the brake controller more complicated to use. This controller functions exactly as one should. With no trailer, you don't even notice it's there. The display isn't intrusive, and completely shuts off aside from a small, dim light to let you know it still works. With a trailer, it just works. The controls are simple, the boost functions are easy to use and understand, and the adjustability is straightforward. Installation is as easy as any other brake controller, and at 70 degrees you'd be hard pressed to find a spot it won't work in. Braking action is smooth and consistent, and the manual override works as it should. The display tells you whether it's connected, and how much power it's feeding to the brakes, and that's about it. Fantastically simple and effective. Long story short, I already installed 3 of them in 3 separate vehicles, and we just purchased an '03 Explorer that will be the fourth. We use this mainly for a 3 horse slant.

Connected right up to the wire harness in my truck with the appropriate wire kit. Took about 5 minutes to install. Simple and works great so far. Ive had it for about a year or so now. Bought it back in i think march of 25'

Zero issues with the controller, was probably the easiest installation I've done given my Ford had all the wiring tucked behind the driver side left kick panel, literally. NOTE: this only applies if you have the trailer tow package pre-installed from the factory, if you don't the wires may not be provisioned and additional wiring may be required. Always check with the mfg of the tow vehicle and the RV dealer. I simply had to pop off the panel and the wire was there, the only thing I did was pull it up into the wiring area just below the dash, mounted the controller with the hardware there above my left knee (some say don't do it in the event of an accident, I'm going against that due to accidents will provide you with other issues), and it's far enough away and to the left I can fully see it and I don't want to be looking at it after it's set up for my trailer. Set up of the controller ..took all of 7-minutes (3min to read the instructions), after the trailer is hooked up, adjust the amount of signal being sent to the trailer brakes, do a pull test and adjust/set. These are now pretty straight forward but if you don't want to install it when you buy your trailer/RV, the dealer can do it for about $50-$100 ish. Tekonsha has been in the business of brake controller and other electronics for years, sure there are others but when it comes to stopping, I trust this brand.

Controller works flawlessly the way it was intended. It is very versatile with the options to choose from based on weight and amount of axles on trailer. I own a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd and Paired with: Tekonsha 3015-P Brake Control Wiring Adapter for GM. The harness made the install a breeze and made no need for splicing wires. Was quoted $350 in Calgary for this setup that costed half and took a whole 7 minutes to install and I had to supply zip ties to keep wires from the mentioned adapter out of the way. All in all works for me and keeps my trailers braking safely at a reasonable cost.

I have driven many company trucks with many different brands and types of controllers. Time delay controllers make trailering uncomfortable. The brakes are either no there when you need them or maxed when you are slow braking. While I have not used this model yet. I trust the Tekonsha brand and look forward to another controller with proportional breaking. I purchased 2. One to replace a 20 year old Tekonsha that is getting tired and one for a recently purchased truck. The instructions were excellent. Features like boost, self levelling, and a red dial that is easy to adjust with out searching for it are great. The price I paid was $50 less than our local parts store. It arrived well packaged in just a few days. I don't think I needed to purchase the next model up. I use different trailers regularly and feel the options in this unit are adequate and not complicated.

Installation was simple, plug and play with the correct adapter cable. Setup and operation is easy. The trailer brakes smoothly with none of the lurching I experienced towing a trailer with surge brakes. Minor complaint that the module still applies a varying voltage when the truck and trailer are fully stopped and the brakes are applied.
