KitchenAid KCG0702CS Burr Coffee Grinder, Contour Silver

Ok, I did a lot a reading about different burr grinders before ordering this one. I wanted one that wasn’t huge on the counter and wouldn’t wake the whole neighborhood. I know this one didn’t have the greatest reviews but I liked the fact it had glass carafes. Coffee beans are oily and the idea of putting them in the dishwasher sounded smart. Also plastic carafes yellow as they age. Now granted, I have only had mine for a few months so I can’t speak on longevity, but so far I really like the Kitchen Aid Burr Grinder. It is loud, but not obnoxious. (It’s a grinder, so what do you expect? If your looking for silent buy a hand grinder). It is definitely much quieter then other brands. It is very solid, heavy, and well built. If you have a Kitchen Aid Mixer you know the quality of this machine. The reviews kept mentioning people break the glass carafes, so I am careful with them. (They are glass, so what do you expect? If your a klutz maybe you should buy plastic.) The reviews mention this grinder clogs often, so I simply turn it on prior to dropping in scoops of beans. I let it run for 15-20 seconds after it’s done grinding to clear the beans and there has been no problem with clogging. I do not store my beans in the top carafe because I like to measure my beans for each pot of coffee. (My recipe is 2 scoops of regular and 4 scoops of decaf beans per pot. Brewed in a Moccamaster is amazing!!!) I had some static in the lower carafe when it was brand new but now static is not an issue. I do not take the grinder apart to brush out the burrs after each use. (I’m not obsessed.) I’m guessing the static became less of an issue after the inner working parts got coated in coffee oils. I have noticed some static in the lower carafe immediately after taking it out of the dishwasher, but after one or two uses the ground beans stop sticking to the glass again. I clean mine once a week to once every other week. I think that’s it. Kitchen Aid has made a nice grinder for the money. I’m very impressed and if you aren’t abusive with it you will be too. - Hope this helps. Good luck!

We love it! Use it everyday

We had to pay a premium for this grinder because it seems it’s discontinued. The style and motor are very much like the mixers everyone loves so much. It’s a straight forward design that’s easily cleaned. Noise level is low for the monster motor they attached to this. It’s a very low speed grinder so that might be why. The grind quality seems consistent but I’m not scrutinizing it that much. It’s early in the purchase time but so far this was worth the money over some of the newer plastic options. This unit has almost no plastic except for the knob and a little on the base. It’s all metal and glass.

I’ve been using this grinder for over 10 years now. I bought 2 more for gifts. Powerful burr grinder. Simple operation. This is how all appliances used to be made, and it’s nice to see some still are. I purchased spare grinder parts thinking they would wear out, but the last I I took mine apart I compared the two burrs against the new, spare parts and there was zero wear. So, I just reinstalled them! This grinder is a bit loud so don’t plan on using with someone asleep in the room upstairs, but what a great job it does. Simple, easy dial adjustment for setting the grind size. I love this grinder. Love it!

Dateline: 2 Months after my purchase I've run 6 different bags of coffee beans through this unit. Thus far I've had to open it up and unjam/clean it more than 3x per (1lb) bag. This is a time-consuming, messy and wasteful process (as seen in the illustration). With each use the unit has shown more and more signs of straining - and today the magic smoke finally leaked out. I've tried all the recommended "tricks" I've read online from adjusting the grind to feeding it a few beans at a time (that was what I was doing when it burned out). Even right out of the box it sounded like it was straining - I should have known better and sent it back directly but I had "faith in the brand". I will NOT be making that expensive mistake again. I was hoping to write a glowing report about the awesomeness of owning what I thought was going to be an amazing grinder that would let me level up my coffee game. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. This unit sits right next to one of KittchenAid's legendary mixers that I've had for over a decade and use regularly - it's a beast! Aside from some cosmetic similarities and the name on the side, this grinder is -nothing- like their mixers, not in terms of construction or durability. The motor is seriously under-torqued for the job and the grind chamber is poorly designed with serious feed and discharge issues. Some notes to keep in mind if you're considering purchasing this unit: - it "holds" a considerable amount of coffee in the grind chamber (probably what causes it to jam so quickly). Unless you only use the same coffee blend you'll need to clean it out between grinds or you'll mix your beans. - when you remove the burrs to clean them, you WILL make a mess. There is no easy way around this. Also, when you reinsert the burrs, you'll likely get grease in the grind chamber (you have to fit it in blindly and hope you have it centered). - a 500ml Ball mason jar fits perfectly under the unit and tends to not have the static issues the supplied (and very fragile and expensive-to-replace) collection bowl has. - that "warm motor" smell you you "might" notice? Yeah, that, along with the straining sound, is your motor burning out. Given the unit's housing you won't notice it overheating until the magic smoke leave out the back, then it's too late. - you have to "unload" the top hopper to empty the beans out to unjam/clean the unit (otherwise they just fall through when you pull the burrs out). This means turning the unit upside-down and catching them in a bowl. Again, expect a mess. There is >nothing< clean about servicing/maintaining this grinder. - beyond these major, glaring issues... yeah, the unit was a snap to setup, set the grind and operate (three key features that attracted me to it). Unfortunately the whole "burning up during use" kind of kills the joy pretty quickly.

So first, the good: This grinder is obviously made for the long haul. Build feels high-quality and seems like it will last for years (4 and counting for me with zero evidence of wear). If you are going for fine coffee grounds, this thing slays the day! You have 15 options, and if you go for the finest, you end up with commercial-grade powder. All evenly done. The result is a work of art. You can definitely notice the difference compared to cheaper, non-burr types. Also, the capacity is pretty great if you need to stock up. On the flip side, there are a couple of issues. If you are going for the coarsest settings (perhaps for French Press), there is a static electricity issue with the glass bowl receptacle as well as the output end of the grinder. It may depend on what kind of coffee beans you get, but mine always wound up annoyingly sticking to the outside of the glass, as well as even around the shaft. So, your mileage may vary. Again, if you do medium or fine grinding, no issues. There is one design issue that may perhaps be unavoidable (as it is similar to my paper shredder) -- it can get kind of messy with leftover grounds which don't make it down into the bowl. Even when I try and curtail this by shaking the bowl against the output shaft before removing it to access the grounds, there is often some residual powder that exits afterwards and I feel like I have to repeat the cleanup a few times. Minor, and again, might be par for the course. On a final note, I wish the bowl receptacle could stay a bit more "fixed" in place while grinding. It just kind of sits on base of the machine, and often the grinding vibrates enough that the bowl starts to move off the base. I get nervous that if left unattended, it would completely slide off and stop catching the grounds. A very minor quibble, though. I know that I sound like I don't like this product, based on these comments, but I do feel it is a 4-star product. It does an *excellent* job. If KitchenAid does "Rev 2" of this product, and fixes these tiny issues, it would be unbeatable. Nevertheless, I have no regrets about this purchase!

Seems to work perfectly out of the box for drip coffee I set it on 5 and it is perfect. I bought this on 9/4/2017 for $219.00 and 3 days later Amazon drops the price by $6.51 now today 9/7/17 it's $212.49 Then a set of lights I ordered were 39.99 then days later they went down $5.00 each. If you buy this excellant coffee grinder you will not be looking for another one anytime soon. It's well built just be careful with containers. The grinder should also come with a clear static free cover so when not in use it can be covered the suggestion of a clear cover is so one can see it because it is a very nice looking appliance that can be displayed on the counter. Update 9/8/2017 This mornings fresh ground organic beans makes me wonder why I never went ahead and invested in a real grinder before. The other reason I chose the KitchenAid grinder verses conical burr units is that at most coffee shops use "Plate Grinders" verses conical units. Other deciding factor was that I used to service plate grinders...Please note when I had to be servicing them that only entailed readjusting the plate tension after years of use and or a good cleaning was needed...

I had one of these twenty years ago but lost it in a divorce. I had looked for one time and again over the years and finally found this one. So glad I pulled the trigger on this, there is nothing like fresh ground coffee!!!

Excelente molino ya lo tenía anteriormente

Muele muy disparejo, no es muy exacto,

Cuando adquirí el producto, por default estaba en la opción 5 o 6 de tipo de molido. Y funcionó perfecto por este tiempo. Un buen día decidi cambiarlo al modo mas fino de molido y note que no estaba funcionando correctamente, empezo a salir un olor a quemado y eso me inquietó. Tuve que abrir la máquina y limpiarla, y volver ensamblar. Desde entonces una que otra vez hay que desatorar los granos de cafe o checar que pasa cuando muele de forma inconsistente. Para algo tan caro y que promete ser de mas potencia, me ha decepcionado. Mi máquina anterior por menos de la mitad del precio funcionó mejor por años, hasta que murió y tuve que reemplazarla. Actualización: Después de mover la perilla para seleccionar el máximo nivel de molido he seguido con los problemas que a veces parece batallar la máquina. Pero me ha gustado que ahora, comparando con mi molino anterior, logro degustar un rico café, utilizando al menos 30% menos de cantidad por el tipo de molido.

EXCELENTE producto!!!, lo recomiendo ampliamente, la potencia al moler es perfecta, creo que lo único que le falta para ser perfecta, es que el envase de vidrio donde cae el café, debería tener una tapa aparte
