Great for adding sound effects
Very small, ideal for inserting into model projects to add sound effects etc. Easy to interface with Arduino, ESP32, ESP8266, and other microprocessor systems. Excellent value.

Not as good as the genuine parts
I bought a couple of these DFPlayer Mini modules to use with an Arduino Nano. My original genuine DFPlayer worked perfectly with the same setup, but these newer modules were extremely unreliable at first and appeared faulty. They would connect to the Arduino and correctly detect the SD card, but would not consistently play audio. The serial monitor showed the correct file was being selected, yet there was no sound output apart from an occasional click or brief LED flash. It initially looked like a hardware fault. After extensive troubleshooting, I eventually discovered the real issue was not wiring, code, or SD card formatting. The problem was that macOS automatically adds hidden system files to the SD card (such as โ._โ AppleDouble files and Spotlight/Finder metadata folders). These files are invisible in normal use but were being incorrectly read and counted by the clone DFPlayer modules as real audio files. This caused the modules to mis-index the SD card contents, meaning โtrack 1โ was often not actually pointing to the real MP3 file. Once these hidden files were removed using command line tools (rather than Finder) so that only the actual MP3 file remained, the module began working and played audio correctly. However, even when working, these clone modules still produce serial timeout errors, unlike genuine DFPlayer units, which suggests their firmware is less robust or not fully compliant. In summary: * They can work, but are very sensitive to hidden files on SD cards * macOS Finder can silently break compatibility by adding metadata files * They are less reliable and less consistent than genuine DFPlayer modules * Expect occasional serial timeout errors even when audio is functioning If you use them, I strongly recommend using command line tools to prepare SD cards and ensuring only clean MP3 files are present.

Worked as expected.
The all worked as expected and arrived on time. Will order again in the future if required.

Not genuine DFPlayer Mini
The boards I received were not genuine DFPlayer Mini's. They don't use the same IC as the originals and the Arduino libraries are not 100% compatible. The serial seams to be the worst problem, as read on many forums. I didn't waste my time trying as they are not what was advertised, so returned.
