do they need to be watered if they are kept in the fridge (dormant) until Christmas?

No...they are very active and will not need water through the holidays. After that, you can soak them in some water once a month. Educational information all about Mexican jumping beans is included.

How long from time of shipment to time when moths appear?

That probably depends on how old the beans are when shipped, so I doubt you’d be able to tell! I had mine for a couple months before the moths came out. You can put them in the refrigerator to slow that time frame.

I had my jumping beans for about 5 months then they hatched into moths. The moths only lived for about one week.

what are the benefits ??

I found them fun to watch. In expectation of which is jumping next. They're a wonder of nature. They made my great grandson laugh. Other than that, I don't know of any other benefit.
