Quick Snap Guide to Digital SLR Photography: An Instant Start-Up Manual for New dSLR Owners

I am a new dSLR owner and wanted to understand the basics of my rig. I am not a film convert, so a lot of the camera was Greek to me. David Busch does an incredible job in describing what modes to use for what situation and what adjustments to make when photos don't come out perfect. There is also a very nice tutorial on lens types, which I found very helpful as I only have the kit lenses. Later in the book, he delves in to lighting, composition, and how to shoot the most common types of photos. Every tutorial is accompanied by great example shots. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone new to the dSLr game.

I am currently reading this book and have found out things that I might not ever have found out about digital photography. I consider this to be the best book for beginners to DSLR cameras. A lot of useful information to get here.

The "Quick Snap Guide..." is a very fine reference tool for using the new SLR cameras. I am waiting to receive my camera and have been able to puruse the book at my leasure. What I most like about it is that it is oranganized in a user-friendly way. The topic discussions are as well. Worth the few bucks it cost to have it ready when my camera arrives.

It is a good book to begin with. Explains alot of things, However, I would recommend the Nikon D3200 for Dummies.

My opinion is that this is a great resource as guide to a totally uninformed and unsure owner of a camera that I have wanted to own for a long time and have no idea how to operate it. Thanks a bunch.

I am new to dSLR cameras and was looking for a book that would get me beyond the point and shoot world I had been living in for so many years. Basically, this book just tells you what buttons to look for on the camera and sort of what they do; but this is something my Pentax User's Manual already does in better detail. This book does try to present some principles of basic photography, but ends up doing so in broad vagaries, so do not buy it if you are looking for a clear discussion of aperture vs. ISO vs. shutter speed, etc. Buy it only if you want some direction on what buttons you should be looking for on your dSLR and nothing more. I checked out The New Manual of Photography by John Hedgecoe from the local library and found it to be infinitely more helpful and informative. I might buy that one instead, but I've already sunk $20 once, so this time I am going to be careful.

Lots of much needed information. This book is priceless I learned several different approaches to do different things . This was money well spent

The book is ruined by incompetent design. It is an oddball inconvenient horizontal format. A far more serious fault is that it is printed in eyeball-busting very small type. And worst of all, that tiny type is in very hard to read sans serif. As a result, it is frustrating and fatiguing to read this book even if you have excellent vision and glasses. For an older person or anyone without perfect vision it is impossible. This abomination is surprising since other books by the same author are competently-designed. The author, David Busch, should realize his publisher's designers are incompetent and try to get them to do a decent job on other books. Note that the book was published in 2006 and written earlier. It is at least 8 years out-of-date and some information is incorrect, misleading, or ridiculous.
