Makita 197213-3 Interlocking Case, X-Large/12-1/2" x 15-1/2" x 11-5/8"

For the life of me could not find consistent inside dimensions listed for these Makita systainers, not even on the Makita website, until I finally ordered a couple of them for myself. Low and behold the sticker labels on the systainers contain the inside dimensions written right on them! So now we've arrived at the moment all of the frustrated questioners have been waiting for: Inside / interior / inner dimensions of Makita interlocking cases: Large interlocking case: 7-1/4" x 15-1/4" x 11-1/4" Small interlocking case: 3" x 15-1/4" x 11-1/4" Since about half of the interior side of the lid comes down further than the other to accommodate the recessed handle, I assume these are the smallest interior dimensions of the case. I cannot understand why these inside dimensions are so difficult to come across before purchase. Reviews and answers here and on Home Depot are far from few and between, and whatever answers provided are conflicting or misleading. So far I've only purchased the large and small, but will try and report back with inside dimensions of the medium and extra large if I order them. As for the cases themselves, unlike some of the negative reviews, I find them to be robust enough for tool cases and I like that they have four locking mechanisms to attach to other systainers unlike the two, seemingly flimsy ones, found on other brands of locking cases. I also like the simple squareness of these cases compared to the "bone shaped" competitor, which seems like it would compromise how tools fit in the case and how they can be customized. Their simple rectangle shape without too many recessed or rounded edges allow for maximum storage and customization. I purchased the large size for the Makita 3-1/4 HP RP2301FC Plunge Router, which I believe is the largest router Makita makes. Unfortunately this router is slightly too large for even the large case. It's about a half inch or less too wide to fit. It will fit if you start by placing it in the box at an angle, but it ends up pressing up against the front and back of the case, bowing it out a bit and leaving no wiggle room. I am looking for a custom fit using a foam insert and certainly cannot do that in this case since it barely fits without any foam. I am therefore going to purchase the extra large case, which might be the same height as depth (11-1/4"), but I am hoping that I will be able to fit it sideways with one of the arms facing the roof of the lid that is recessed further away from the handle indentation. (I think, at least hope, it will fit this way, and will try to report back with results.). With the router stored on its side I will be able to easily fit the case of "POWERTEC 71051 Router Template Guide Set". The template guide set case already fits the large box directly along the inside edge very nicely, and I plan to mold the foam around it to keep it in place. It will also easily have room for the vacuum attachment and other router accessories. Although the large case does not accommodate the tool I was hoping it would, I think I'm going to keep it since I'm sure to find another tool or use for it (if not woodworking tools than I'll probably use it for photography equipment or something else entirely). I purchased the small case to fit my growing router bit collection and to connect to the larger case holding the router so that I can store and tote them around together. I purchased a foam insert with predrilled holes for 1/4" and 1/2" shank bits. The small case only has an inside height of 3", and while some of my router bits (particularly spiral and flush trim bits) are up to 4" long, I plan to drill into the foam at a diagonal angle so that they can still be stored in the small systainer. I ordered the "POWERTEC 71437 Customizable Foam Insert for Festool Systainer, Makita Interlocking Case" to custom fit my router into a large case, and the "POWERTEC 71046 Router Bit Tray for 110 Bits" to fit into the small case to hold all of my router bits. The customizable foam insert seems well made and is a perfect fit for the Makita cases. The foam is firm and I believe it will hold up well to heavy tools. What I didn't know is that the foam insert comes with another cutout of foam to put on the inside of the lid, which is a nice surprise. The foam for the lid holds in place all on it's own, but could easily be glued, taped, or even tapped in if needed. The router bit tray hasn't arrived yet, but am expecting the same quality based on the reviews.

Don't understand why the bad reviews about these. Seems too many have the wrong expectations for this product. I love how the other reviewer said they are storage, not bar stools or step ladders. So true. They may not take the abuse of a rough and tumble construction worker, but if you treat them right, they are more than durable. Also, don't see how any one can knock off stars for being too small, the size is listed right here on the product page. Not like it's a mystery box. I am a avid DIYer plus I do alot of woodworking and I love them. I already have two packed out. One for my Jessem downeling jig with all the parts and all three sizes, it all fits in this box perfectly. The other I have my Rockler jig-it hinge jig, and all it's parts, all fit perfectly as well. Of course they won't fit everything, but there are other sizes. Also love the fact that they fit together and lock together. And you can't complain about the price, they are so much cheaper than systainers. I've priced them, they are high. Very happy with these boxes, glad I bought them and will be buying more.

Some reviews on these call them cheap, and while the newest offering from Millwaukee are pretty amazing in build quality they also come in at about 30% more expensive than these and don't work with existing systems like these. I really like these Makita Cases. I have several, the first one came with my Makita Track Saw, and I loved it, they are actually very sturday, they stack really well, they lock together well, the plastic clasps can be stiff at times and sometimes need a little non-oil based lubrication, you could use sometime like WD40 but, then that attracts dust. But, it really isn't necessary. Contrary as well to what others have said they do have a spot for a lock on the right side, they are sturdy and strong, they are very functional, have a lot of volume / room. I have been buying additional ones for other tools as they make a great portable toolbox when combined that I can simply grab individual tools and go, they keep tools stowed and organized, and the boxes organize and stack, and store really well in areas with limited space. I recommend these. They could be cheaper but, for the price they are pretty good.

Love that Makita makes these staking tool storage boxes. I’m a sucker for boxes and storage, and those that are modular, lock and stack are even better. These fit the bill, with my recent dive into battery powered tools, I needed a place to store them in the garage. Now with most companies not making a handy carrying case for their tools, I hope this will make up for that. The boxes are pretty solid, could have used a slightly thicker, sturdier plastic if I’m being picky. But they work well enough. I got all the sizes, from the XL down to the small. The locking latches are ok, a bit stiff and you have to get them just right or they will not lock. I’m not sure how sturdy they are when all the boxes are actually stacked and locked together if you are going to transport them. But they are sturdy enough just to keep them from wobbling around. I like that they make several sizes which at least for me, will accommodate all my tools, so far. The XL one is big enough to fit my circular saw, planer and router as well. The other sizes are also good for the rest of my tools, which are not makita tools, but I don’t think the boxes will care. I also want to make a few customized containers to fit inside. You know what they say, a place for everything and everything in it’s place. All in all a good product, could have been a bit thicker plastic and perhaps had different type locks, but all in all good enough.

I wanted to store my hose while I was not using it. I use my Surf Prep sander and its hose, most of the time. The reviews said this Medium case and Small case does not fit the hose. Not the case it fits perfect and the adapters as well. Makita makes great products. I may purchase another Medium one to store my Surf Prep and its hose.

I bought this case to store my newly purchased Makita Belt Sander (9404 - 4x24”). After verifying the dimensions from online specs I was pleased to find it fits very well both upright or on its side along with extra sand paper rolls. I don’t own the sanding shoe so I can’t comment on whether if would accommodate it as well but judging from its size it looks like it would fit. Pro: Lightweight Relatively Inexpensive Modular (Stacks w/ Both Small & Med Cases - All cases are the same dimensions except for the height) 4 Locking clips help Secure lid or another case on top Large Sturdy Carrying Handle Internal Boxed Corner supports and ribbing aid in stiffening case Cons: For just a little over $20 I really can’t find anything to complain about so this is just me being picky but when the latches are not locked down they have a lot of play in them which makes them feel cheap, makes me wonder if they won’t pop off accidentally after 1-2 years or break at the protruding hinge points. However when latched down they are solid and tight with no wiggle room at all. Just to reiterate, the container lid and hinge are fairly sturdy my issue is only with the 4 small black latches when they are not locked down.

I love makita and have almost never been dissapointed. This purchase has its ups and downs. For the price, it's small and won't fit much. Most makita cordless tools have a belt clip on them which makes them too tall for the case to close. You will need the 6.5 inch tall one if your going to use it for that. The latches can be difficult, though they do work and the cases do interlock as promised. They could use more size options as theese will not fit a seawall, or circular saw properly to protect them. I use them mostly to organize and transport tools so they work for me. There is another brand of the same quality and durability that looks just like them without the makita name for much cheaper, but I like seeing a sea of the word makita everywhere, lol. I work with multiple carpenters and there is no mistake which tools are mine. They are easy to label. They will protect from something being dropped on them, but I wouldnt trust them in a fall the way I would thier individual thick sturdy vacuum formed cases that come with some tools ( I wish they would make those for my sawzall and rear handle circular ). The caddy for theese is super expensive and doesnt allow for Individual removal as many other brands do ( its basicly a blue mini hand truck you can buy for 20-30 bucks, except its blue and costs 200 ). I think the system can use more work/features but hey...its a box. For the price there are endless more sturdy options in different size configurations, but if you're simply a makita fan, these could be for you.

Would be nice to have foam inserts to separate tools. Otherwise it is a plastic box with a carry handle.

I have different beands of tool boxes from Milwaukee to the cheapest ones. I got this for the Makita plunge saw. The saw fits well inside and doesn't move much. It is very spacious (seems more spacious than the Milwaukee, but i didn't measure it) but it is all plastic that is why I believe the quality is above average but not among the top tool boxes. But perfect for my use.

Aunque no es la mejor opcion en cajas para herramientas, a mi me gusta guardar mis herramientas en sus cajas de la misma marca, estan a buen precio comparadas con otras similares, entonces si eres usuario Makita, son muy recomendables, si usas otra marca, busca otra opcion.

La compré como caja complemento de la sierra sp6000j (la cuál es muy cara tambien, pero de excelente desempeño y calidad) y resultó ser una caja con un plástico abs extremadamente delgado y quebradizo. De hecho llegó despostillada en un lugar donde no puede ser golpeada por el transporte. Es muy extraño que MAKITA permita estos productos complementarios de tan baja calidad. La devolvería pero prefiero que se maltrate esta caja cara a mi sierra que es mucho más cara aún.
