From the author of Welcome to the Symphony, this interactive, swing-along picture book for introduces kids ages 4 to 8 to the world of jazz music—with 12 unique sound buttons! Are you ready to swing? Discover the wonders of jazz: How to get in the groove, what it means to play a solo, and the joy of singing along in a call-and-response. In this interactive picture book with 12 different sounds, you’ll hear the instruments of jazz—the rhythm section with its banjo, drums, and tuba, along with the leads, like the clarinet, trumpet, and trombone. You'll also hear singers “scat”, improvising melodies with special syllables like “be-bop” and “doo-we-ah”! Along the way, you’ll learn how this unique African American art form started in New Orleans, and how jazz changed over time as innovative musicians like King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Billie Holiday added their own ideas and style to it. Press the buttons to hear the band, the rhythms, and the singer calling out: “OH, WHEN THE SAINTS—oh, when the saints ...” Welcome to Jazz is the second book in music educator Carolyn Sloan’s hugely successful Welcome to .. . sound button picture book series that introduces classic musical genres to young readers, that also includes Welcome to the Symphony and Welcome to the Opera . Review: Fun and educational! - She has other music books but this is by far my Granddaughters favorite. She knows all of the instruments and has us all marching to When the Saints! Great Book! My kids LOVE this book!
My daughters, 7 and 3.5 love to read this book together and push the buttons to hear the instruments. We have the other one, Welcome to the Symphony as well and buy these for birthday and holiday gifts for friends and family. This version has a button on the back to turn the sound off--at first I thought the book was broken but then I realized it was a brilliant update :) The book not only helps my little one with reading as she follows along and pushes the buttons, but it has also developed her ear for different types of instruments when we listen to music together. The rich pictures and story lines of the little characters navigating their ways through understanding what IS jazz makes it engaging as well as informative. Keep these books coming, Carolyn Sloan!

My kid loves it
My kid receive as a gift the Opera book and we knew that we wanted more of these books so we bought Welcome to Jazz and he loves it. He recognizes all the instruments now and imitates the sound (he is 2.5 years)

Toddler Loves It!
Our 2.5 year old son loves it. My wife and I are both musicians and we are trying to expose him to a variety of music and instruments. He loves pressing the buttons and has learned the names of all of the instruments. The book itself is more about what jazz music is rather then an actual story so the book part is probably for older kids who can understand what it is saying but the exposure to the actual sounds of these instruments is a lot of fun for him.

Good book; batteries difficult to replace
Our toddler enjoys the book. It is well written, and the music is good. Our two year old has no problem pressing the buttons. However, the batteries are extremely difficult to replace. They fit much too snugly and won't pop out without a lot of force from a screwdriver.

Fantastic book!
Great book that introduces jazz concepts to young ones. But the song gets annoying for adults after a couple of plays!

Bem bacana
Só as ilustrações não prendem a atenção de uma criança por muito tempo. Poderia ser trabalhado isso

3 year old loves it
Got for my son’s 3rd birthday. Massive hit! The way the story builds with the instruments and song segments is great.
