Good headphones but not for all.
They are good for the price. In my opinion, they sound as good as an $800 or even $900 pair of headphones. I do not know why they claim to be reference headphones, because they are not all that flat. They have tight bass and overall clear sound up to 8000Hz. That is where some listeners might experience sonic fatigue. My dad tried these headphones out, and after an hour, he told me he did not like them for that specific reason. I personally did not experience any sonic fatigue and actually liked the way they sounded. Some reviews reported that they clamp. I did feel them clamp a little while I was wearing them, but it was not to the point where I would say that they are uncomfortable. I would have to guess the people saying that have round or just very large heads. The build quality is great, and I believe that they will last a very long time. I expect at least 15 to 25 years with good care. My only real complaint about these headphones is that the ear pads are hard to change and they are very easy to accidentally rip. That is not the end of the world, though, because replacement ear pads are easy to come by: Beyerdynamic sells parts for them on their website, and there are also plenty of third-party offerings. The headphones come with two 1/4” to mini XLR cables; one is coiled, and the other is the usual Beyerdynamic trademark extremely long cable. It is nice to see that they put in a coiled cable because I always hate how long their cables are, as I always run over the cable with my chair and break them. Since the second cable is coiled, you get the added benefit of not worrying about pulling your amp off your desk, unlike what you would get with a shorter cable. The coiled cable is quite heavy, though, but I am sure that I will get used to it over the time that I own these headphones. Something that I would expect at this price point is a balanced cable. This should not be a complaint for many because most people do not own balanced equipment. Overall, I think these headphones are not for everyone, but for the people who like the sound of them, they are quite good for the price, even if they have some shortcomings.

The BEST Headphones I've Ever Auditioned In-Home YET!!! HIGHLY Recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!
After a week of comparing these to the Mitchell & Johnson MJ2s, I decided to go with the Beyers!! The MJ2s are also incredible. Both were the most expensive headphones I've auditioned in-home yet, and both are worth their weight in GOLD! But even though I loved the engaging sound of the MJ2s, I felt the 1770 was also quite engaging and fun, but it also had a fantastic soundstage as well. Not TOO wide, but wider than the MJ2's. Of course, I could get upgraded ear pads for the MJ2s, but then that would kill another strong point they have going that the Beyers don't........extra portability. The MJ2s fold in and come with a pretty compact egg-shaped box. From what I've read, these upgraded pads make it impossible to fold the MJ2s in, which negates their portability factor. I will admit that the MJ2s over time didn't seem as uncomfortable with the stock pads as I originally perceived, but I still wanted a bit more space and more soundstage (which of course results in better instrument separation). So the 1770s just made more sense! The DT-1770 Pros are built TO LAST and look gorgeous! The outer ear cups are made up of a high-grade plastic which looks really nice, and it has a little bit of plastic on the sides where the headband adjusters begin. But other than that, they are all metal and a GENUINE leather headband! The pads are velour (default) and leatherette/pleather. Several pro reviewers agreed that the leatherette ones sound much better, so you wanna switch to them IMO. The velours might be slightly more comfortable though? My final take on these two is..........if portability is a big deal for you, you can't go wrong with the MJ2s. Like the DT-1770s, they are crystal clear and VERY detail-revealing! But if you don't mind a bigger headphone (but still portable, IMO), I feel you get the very best sound from the 1770s. The Tesla 2.0 drivers are great and can get pretty loud despite the 250-ohm impedance rating. The MJ2's special brand of electrostatic drivers are fantastic too! A few notes: With regards to the Beyers, I decided to get the shorter 4' braided replacement cable off Amazon as I felt 10' was way too long on the stock one. It will come in today. With regards to the ear pads, I've now ordered not one but TWO different replacement ear pads! I will evaluate both and then post my thoughts next week. The first one is the hybrid inner velour/outer sheepskin leather Dekoni pads (eBay), and then I found out that Dekoni also has an ALL sheepskin leather ear pad for all the Beyers headphones too, so ordered that as well off Amazon. I should have both by Monday or sooner. I will update this review next week. Although the leatherette pads are pretty comfortable, I still wanted a little more comfort, which is why I ordered the 2 different replacement pads. **UPDATE: I ended up going with the Dekoni Audio Elite Sheepskin Leather Ear Pads for Beyerdynamic DT Series Headphones. Better isolation, which results in better bass too. And definitely more comfortable than the stock leatherette pads as well.**

Just amazing! Best closed back headphone...when it works properly
This Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro are just incredible. The build quality is outstanding. The sound is...super detailed and precise. The imaging is just OMG. The soundstage is HUGE, probably the best soundstage of any closed back headphone and even a lot of open back. But is not only wide and deep, is also super precise. If you buy this headphone try the song RedLine OST Europass on YouTube. Man at the end of the song you CAN FEEL the sound coming precisely from the front, right in front of you like if you have speakers in front of you. The highs never go too far. The mids are clear and crystalline pure. The tonality you get from this headphone is just amazing. The bass is powerful but tight and controlled. Just perfect. To me this is the perfect headphone because has all this performance and is a closed back. The isolation with the velour pads is amazing. I imagine with the leather pads will be even better but I prefer velour since has better soundstage and more than enough isolation. Man finally! I say finally because i ordered this three times, the first two times the headphones had clear signs that they weren't brand new or at least the box came really beated up. This time is just perfect, brand new with no damage whatsoever. I tell you guys this headphone is amazing. Oh oh i almost forgot the most important thing, the comfort is amazing. The clamping force is a little bit strong but the velour pads makes this a very very very comfortable experience. Typical beyerdynamic. People if you are looking for a headphone that can be your only headphone for everything, gaming, music listening, watching movies, pro work, this is it. I don't think you can find all this qualities in another headphone at the same time. I just love this. This is the last headphone i will buy in a long time. Hope this helps. UPDATE: I'm lowering the score from 5 stars to 3 stars because my first and second pair have been defective after some usage. The first and second pair developed distortion and a very audible ringing when heavy bass music is played. I have another pair of headphones, way cheaper than this one and that one doesn't have any ringing or distortion when heavy bass music is played. Also after listening for sometime and carefully...I think there's very little difference between this 500 dollars headphones and my other 200 dollar pair so...I'm done with this particular headphone. This is my 4th order, the first two orders I didn't even open the box because they arrive with clear signs that they weren't brand new. Also the box came really beated up. And now the two pairs that I got to try have that problem with the driver. I'm done but man when this works, is just the best sound I have ever heard. Update: Beyerdynamic has corrected the issues with the latest batch of DT 1770 Pro. The one I receive recently is AMAZING. Even the pads look newer and better. I think even the build quality has improved. I'm updating this review back to 5 stars. After listening to this headphone again is like ahhhh this sound sooo good.

Remarkable clarity and soundstage, true neutral signature
When I got my pair of beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm , I fell in love with them. Phenomenal clarity, deep booming bass and that great sounding V curve. When I got my Beyerdynamic DT 880 Premium 600 ohm , I also fell in love with them. Similar, slightly better clarity compared to the 770-80s, but with more natural bass and a better soundstage. I assured myself that audiophile gear was a land of steeply diminishing returns: it couldn't get significantly better than this. Then I got the DT-1770. My love of the 770s had me salivating at the 1770s, wanting to hear the amazing successors to bring that heritage to the Tesla drivers. And, amazingly, I found the returns did not dimish. Closed-back headphones with stunning clarity -- in many cases they aren't noticeably better in clarity than the 880s, but then you find that one song that just completely blows your mind. This first happened to me with the opening for Outlander - The Skye Boat Song (Extended) , which sounds markedly better on the 1770s than any other properly EQed headphone I owned. They come with a remarkably neutral signature, one I have not felt the need to EQ. I can't say I've ever encountered this before! This means bass can feel very muted if you're used to the common V signature. That isn't to say they aren't capable, though: if the source asks for bass, there is plenty there to give and it doesn't muddle up the rest of the frequencies. Soundstage not quite equal to that of the open 880s, but closer than I thought possible with closed headphones. One unexpected thing I've found is that they are easy to drive despite being 250ohm drivers. Taking them out of my O2/ODAC, I curiously plugged them into my Lumia 950 and was able to drive them to acceptable volume and bass response. Their clarity does tend to point out flaws in your source -- I did hear noise pretty easily, but that's hardly a fault of the cans. So, lets talk about cons. Weight and clamping force is a thing. These are significantly heavier and clamp significantly harder than the 880s, and you definitely feel it -- I've not made it more than two hours without having to take a break. Most of the time, I don't make it much past an hour. The mini-XLR cable also sticks out pretty far from the cans, and depending on how you're sitting can hit your neck or shoulder when you tilt your head. Overall, I think these were worth the money. I feel dirty saying that, knowing that being an audiophile is mildly comparable to a placebo disease, but against all odds they brought new understanding of music I was already familiar with, making me excited in ways I thought I was done with.

Very pleasantly surprised by these headphones!
These headphones sound fantastic. There have been many that have said these are bass monsters...I completely disagree. The bass is pronounced and there is about a 3 to 5 db boost all the way until about 100 hz. But frequency responses can be deceiving. The Fostext THx-00 have much much more bass than these. These headphones and the often complained about treble spike at 6khz are overblown as well. In my opinion the DT 770 had a much worse spike in the treble and was borderline sibilant. These on the other hand are much more tame. These headphones are great for anybody that wants a slight V shape, without the mids being recessed into oblivion. The mids are there, they just aren't up front compared to the bass and treble. But overall, I am shocked that these headphones have some of the negative reviews that they do. In my opinion, the Meze 99 Classics were much more abrasive, had bloomy bass and a upper mid/treble spike from 4 to 6 kHz that made them completely unlistenable. I love these headphones and I only have 2 minor complaints. The first being that the earpads are much stiffer than typical Beyer pads...and due to that, they rub against the tops of my ears after prolonged use. I can see this issue being alleviated once I break in the earpads further. The 2nd issue is the cables. I like that they are mini xlr, but I can't stand how stiff and janky they are. They are impossible to straighten out. It isn't a huge issue...but when you spend the kind of money you do on buying middle to top of the line headphones, the cable shouldn't be so cheap.

Upgraded from the DT 770 Pro and am very happy I did!
I had the DT 770 Pros 80 ohm for several years. I had been eyeing an upgrade to the 770's and I was looking for another closed back set. The main contenders were the DT 1770 Pro and the Massdrop 177x GO. I was able to try both and decided to stick with the 1770s over the 177x (I paid approx the same price for both, so price was not an issue). I'll discuss a few of the things I really like about the headphones below. Firstly, the 1770 Pros are SUPER solid and very high quality. As soon as you pick them up, you know they are pure class. The 1770 was noticeably more solid than the 177x, so this was an easy point. The 1770 also comes with a nice carrying case for the headphones, which was a great selling point for me. The case holds the headphones, an additional pair of ear-pads (it comes with leather and velour), and the cables (both coiled and straight), which are detachable. The non detachable cables were a big pain point on the 770 Pros. Sound quality- amazing. I know some people don't love the sound, but I enjoy a bass-y sound, and comparing these with the 177x's, these came out ahead in my mind (or ears). Lastly, comfort- these SHINE here. Beyerdynamic is known for their comfort and the 1770 Pros are no exception. I wear these for 6+ hours per day (thanks WFH) with no issues at all. I think comfort is underrated when looking for headphones, and fortunately, these don't skimp in that department. Long story short, these are great headphones. I came from the 770 Pro's and these are a worth successor. Very well built, great sound, very comfortable. Would buy again.

A pair of headphones that punches way beyond its weight class.
Initially, I was a bit underwhelmed by the DT 1770 Pro. Coming from the Hifiman Aryas, the sound seemed muffled uninspired. It definitely didn't have the sound stage that everyone was raving about. However, I kept on listening to them across the span of a week, and the sound dramatically opened up. At this point, after about 10 hours of listening, the soundstage widened significantly, and the detail retrieval now seems incredibly precise. I can now pinpoint individual instruments with ease, and the overall presentation is much more engaging and dynamic. For the price, these headphones punch way above their weight class. I'd easily compare them to headphones twice their price, if not more. Key Takeaways: Burn-in is real: Don't judge these cans out of the box. Give them time to reach their full potential. Power is essential: These are demanding headphones. Make sure you have a decent amp to drive them properly. If you're looking for a detailed, accurate, and well-built pair of studio headphones, the Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro is a fantastic choice. Just be patient and give them the power they need, and you'll be rewarded with a truly impressive listening experience.

Complete Garbage
Complete and utter trash. First of all the sound isn't as good or accurate as the 770 Pro. Second the leather ear pads are complete trash. After sliding them on the ear pad guide both ripped. Third after inserting the cable into the cans it will not remove. It is stuck in the headphones and will not come out no matter how hard i pull and press the release. It's a real shame as the originals were so good. These are not worth the price. I would rather have a pair of cheap knockoff "beats" at least they would be more reliable than these. seriously disappointed in beyerdynamic and will probably not use their equipment anymore. it seems they just stopped caring about making quality equipment and about their customers.
