If you are like me you might be hunting for a trash can that will keep your dog out. My dog had an issue of getting into the trash can when we’re were not home. This had become so much of problem that he had broken 2 trash cans in 2 months. So I looked for a trash can listed as pet proof. To my dismay there were not many options were to could lock the lid. But I did stumble upon this trash can and figured I would give it a try. I could not have been more impressed!! 1. The lock close feature works. You can lock it when you leave and there is no way for your dog to get in it. As a bonus after sometime our dog stoped trying to even get in. So now I do not need to lock it (I think he might be scared of it because it opens on its own). 2. The capacity of this trash can is amazing! No more taking the trash out every night or 2. Often times we end up going 4-5 days without needing to take it out. 3. The charcoal filter works. I never smell anything from my trash can when it is closed. This helps us get 4-5 days with out having to empty it. 4. The sensor works very well. It opens very easy and is simple to get used to. Also, I have never changed the batteries in over 6 months. Overall amazing trash can I am a huge fan. For anyone who wanted the negatives there are a couple. 1. The lock just prevents the lid from opening. It does not turn the motor off. So the lid will try to open but gets stoped. I worry this could break the motor over time. 2. It is a little bit difficult to clean around the top there are just some tight spots to get into. Other than that I have been nothing but happy with this trash can.

I never thought I would actually be excited about a trash can, but this one is great. It fits under my cabinet perfectly & the lid opening is wide enough so nothing touches the inside edges and stays clean. There is a top ring that keeps the liner in place well. The hands free mechanism is working great so far & it gets a lot of use. Hopefully it will hold up for a long time. It was worth the cost.

It's a great idea in theory. However it does not work as intended. The sensor is ridiculously temperamental and touchy, and works inconsistently. Sometimes you can wave your hand and it will open instantly, other times you wave back and forth several times before the lid will open. Sometimes someone walking by sets it off, other times it doesn't recognize any movement anywhere near it not even right on top of the sensor. Then there are times when it just repeatedly opens and closes at random when no one is even in the room. When it works it's great. However, if you change the trash bag, wipe off the lid, unplug it, or move or jiggle the can the sensor will suddenly not work and the light will just blink. Getting it to work again is seriously frustrating since you have to repeatedly try all the options for resetting - turn if off and on, unplug it and wait 20 seconds before plugging it back in, hold down the open button for 20 seconds, hold down the close button for 20 seconds. And sometimes none of it works, so I end up unplugging it and leaving it for several hours. The basket for the filter is inside the can under the lid on the sensor side, so it gets knocked off or falls off easily and is pretty useless. I kept having to fish mine out of the can (eww), then eventually I couldn't find it so I'm guessing it ended up in the trash by mistake. Bought it in October 2020. A month later, I had to return it and got a replacement because the lid completely stopped working. Then 4 months later, long after the return window closed, the new lid did the exact same thing - completely stopped working. This time I contacted the manufacturer who replaced it under the warranty. I assumed that the lid was defective and hoped the new one would work better. However it's now been 4 months and the new one is behaving the same way - inconsistent, unreliable, and frustrating. I'm discouraged because I really had high hopes for this thing, but it was a waste of money.

This is my second of this can- my first one the tip gave out about 4 years in. I like its size and rectangle shape without feeling too big. However- the new one arrived dented- pic is AFTER j attempted to put them out. The top also doesn’t close all the way. Frustrating but I need it so…over all I love the can- very frustrated that something packed so well arrived dented.

I purchased this trash can 1 year ago. Love the hands-free operation! It does an excellent job of keeping nosey pets out, as well as locking in odors. My old manual garbage can had a lid that broke all the time, and the trash stunk up the kitchen. I kept having to replace that one bc of the broken lid issue. This is sturdy and has good capacity. The other thing I really like is it has vents so it’s easy to pull the full trash bag out without a struggle. I bought the power cord separately…which, in IMHO, was worth it. The motion detection works really well, and the opening is large - which makes fridge clean out days easier. Even though this seemed expensive at first, it’s an overall cost savings for me. Totally recommend.

I purchased two i-touchless wings-open sensor trash cans for my kitchen. I use one for trash and the other for recyclables. At first, I hesitated to purchase because of the price. But I have found these to be the best trash cans I have ever owned. So, I am more than pleased with my purchase. They look good in my kitchen because they match my stainless steel appliances and the rectangular shape provides a more up-to-date look than my old round trash containers. I simply hold my hand above the can and the wings open to accept my trash. No more worrisome and dirt collecting foot pedals! Also, these cans resist smudges and are easy to clean. The bags are easy to change and I change them less frequently because this trash can holds more rubbish than the old one. I use the same standard size kitchen trash bags that I used with the old trach cans so think it is the shape of the can that makes the difference in how much the container will hold. Would I recommend this trash can to a friend? - ABSOLUTELY!!!!

I should have believed the negatives already mentioned by others. I'll list the negatives that I noticed immeidately as I opened the box. 1. It dents eaisly. I see not one, but two dents, right out of the box. They are not deep. but they are noticeable. I used my finger to push them out (from inside) and that made the dents less noticeable. By doing that, I discovered the stainless steel is really thin and I feel that I could easily make a dent by simply poking on the trach can with my fingers. 2. The 13-gallon trash bags (at least the ones I bought from Costco) won't fit the opening. That is, the 13-g trash bag is too small to cover the top opening of this 13-gallon trash can. When I forcefully tried to stretch a trash bag to cover the entire opening, the trash bag broke. The gap is just too large to stretch a trash bag. 3. The plastic rim (for holding a trash bag in place) feels really flimsy. I didn't even dare to try stretching a 13-g trash bag over this plastic rim because I feared that it may break. There is indeed a workaround for #2 and #3. That is, buy the 18-gallon trash bag to use on this 13-gallon trash can. I had two other 13-gallon trash cans and they could always take 13-g trash bags without any issue. I think it's the design of this trash can that wasn't well thought out.

My husband purchased this because field mice were getting in through the bottom of our RV to get into the trash can compartment of our RV. They would make so much noise inside the trash can that they would wake me up at night. At first the trash can would not work inside the compartment and had some of the problems I’ve seen written in reviews. The color above it is important. My counters are white underneath. The sensors appear to be optical as opposed to motion detection and white does not reflect back. My husband covered the bottom of the counter over the trash can in black which made the can open and close perfectly. I suspect that may be the problem with some of the reviews here. They need to move the trash can to another area to have the correct color for the optical sensor. The second problem we encountered is that the sensor was not located in a place for me to wave my hand over it due to the small compartment size. My husband attached a piece of painter’s tape to the bottom of the lid and let it hang so that I rotate the lid to replicate the wave which opens the trash can. I remove the lid and drop in the trash, then replace the lid and either rotate it so that the tape is positioned away from the sensor or simply place the lid in the close position; thus the can closes. We intend to replace the tape with something else such as Velcro. My mouse problem has disappeared as they can’t get into my trash can anymore! Thank you iTouchless!
