Menagerie Manor [Durrell, Gerald] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Menagerie Manor Review: If I'd read this as a kid I'd be working in a zoo now - I must admit I've never heard of the author. This popped up as a recommendation so I thought "What the heck" and got it. This is a quick read, and easy read, an educational read, and an entertaining read. I'd even be interested in meeting some reptiles, thanks to this book. Anyone who has even a remote interest in animals should be reading this; scientists who say animals have no personalities should be reading this. I think any human who takes the time to allow this information into their brains will realize we may be the loudest creatures on earth, but we're not the only interesting ones. Review: but the stories are wonderful and elevating - The writing is so-so, but the stories are wonderful and elevating. I love all of the Durrell oeuvre.

I love it!
I 've loved the books by Gerald Durrell since I've read his My Family and Other Animals as a 12 year old. His sense of humor, beauty of his style, and knowledge of animals and people alike make his books (all of them) a rare treat of joyful reading.

Fun read
This is an easy, fast and enjoyable read about animals by a wonderful author. I recommend it to older children and adults who are interested i. Learning about animal behavior and tribulations of starting a zoo/rescue compound.

Hey, it's Gerald Durrell - of COURSE it's wonderful!
This book was great bedtime-reading for my son and me. I have read to him every time, practically since he was born (he is now 14) and my husband and I still do. We went through most of the Durrell books, including this one. Just lovely, and with Durrell's point of view being that of an young boy, just the perfect sort of thing to read to my young son. READ TO YOUR KIDS! It makes a great connection. Timing-wise we can't all be together for every meal, but reading connects us all.

I only bought one of the books on offer at 99p and I really regret that decision. I didn't think I would enjoy the book, but bought it as I thought I should read it. How wrong was I - it was totally brilliant, well-written, extremely funny and left me wanting to know more about the residents of the zoo. Of course, the animals are described in a somewhat anthropomorphic style, but that just adds to the charm.

Very poor paper used in this book. My first read when in school was My Family and Other Animals. I got myself a new paper back with excellent paper, binding and readability 50 years later. Most disappointing the quality of paper and print of this current book under review. Hence two less stars.
