Does this kit come with the needle?

Its not a needle, it is a re-threader. And it does come with it. You don't to use an actual needle in case of damage to the shade.

my blind is 1.75 inches thick. will this kit work?

This kit is for cell or honeycomb shades only. As long as the cord in your shade is 0.9mm this kit will work.

Will his kit work with a 1994 hunter douglas duette shade?

I do not know the answer, but probably google does. I am not sure this kit was specifically for the blinds I was able to re-string. But, going over the google videos several times, I found I could successfully restring my blinds. This kit had all the equipment I needed, besides basic things like measuring tape and scissors. Perhaps you could find google videos for your particular shade, and look at the photo of the contents of the kit, and see if it will help you. That is what I did.

What color are universal covers?

It is more or less an off-white color. There is a definite difference between my old blinds and the new cover, but my curtains cover it up, so it is not a big deal.
