I ordered this for my husband. Thus, I am going by what he told me to say: Anyhow, this KIT is exactly what he wanted it for, and it works just fine. Also, the price was GREAT! Plus it arrived quickly and it was very well packaged.

I picked up the Klein Tools VDV500-705 Wire Tracer out of pure frustration—and it ended up saving me a ton of time and guesswork. We recently moved into a house that was prewired for phone and data, which sounds great… until you realize none of the cables are labeled. I had a bundle of mystery wires in the utility panel and no clue which room any of them went to. Trial and error was not cutting it. Enter this tool. Setup was straightforward. Trailer technician /car guy here. Have a lost connection or bad wire. Chasing the harness in trailers can be a pain, was it a tire blowout, a misguided screw/fastener that broke the wire? Who knows, I just hook up the sender in the circuit that's broken in the 7-way, and start chasing, tone comes over pen unit until you get to the break and then stops. Bing, there's your problem area. This can save a LOT of diag time and chasing gremlins!

Does t come with a case and needs a second set patch cables for rj45s but it works well for my uses. There are some quality concerns for later down the line like the switch for the on off for the toner is a dial that also adjusts the volume of the tones. I was able to do trouble shooting fairly quickly with it had some reversed wires in a cable even though it was terminated correctly wouldn't have known until someone called saying it wasn't working. All in all it's a solid tool you get what you pay for.

I had high hopes for the Klein Tools VDV500-705 Wire Tracer, but unfortunately, it falls short in several key areas. While it claims to provide simple toning and tracing, the actual performance is inconsistent and frustrating. Major Issues: ❌ Weak Signal Detection – The probe struggles to pick up tones, especially in environments with interference. ❌ Poor Build Quality – The plastic casing feels cheap and flimsy, raising concerns about durability. ❌ Inaccurate Wire Mapping – The pin-to-pin wire map test is unreliable, leading to misreads and wasted time. ❌ Limited Functionality – Lacks advanced features found in competing models, making it less versatile for professional use. ❌ Overpriced for What It Offers – Given the lackluster performance, the price tag feels unjustified. And worst of all, it just died on a job, I had to leave and buy a different brand. While the work light and headphone jack are nice touches, they don’t make up for the core functionality issues. If you need a reliable wire tracer, I’d recommend looking elsewhere.

Poor quality toner can't hear tone if cable more than 1m long

Quality is very good and given before timline delivery because I mentioned need urgent delivery...thanks to Amazon
