This is a condensed version of a long epic, written between 750 and 500 B.C., consisting of 50,000 lines of Sanskrit verse. Divided into seven Kanor books, it tells the story of Rama from his birth to his death. At regular intervals throughout the text, the chapters being condensed are designated by Kantitles and numbers. Each interval is appropriate in length for a daily reading, and there are 365 intervals. The cast of characters is provided by a glossary of proper names. Review: Jai Shri Raam - I was blessed to have been able to read this beautiful Valmiki Ramayan. Excellent retelling of this most sacred epic. Review: deep - fair price quick service read this slowly. let it seep in. let it help.

If you're interested at all in translations of the ancient scriptures of the Hindu tradition, any by Swami Venkatesananda are more than worth the read. And, this translation of the Ramayana is certainly no exception. It's a wonderful read and he's divided the context into 365 segments making for excellent daily studying of the scripture. He translates into English direct from the original Sanskrit as he was fluent in both languages (quite an accomlishment by any standard!) so much of the rich color of the original has been wonderfully maintained. I would recommend this to anyone interested in scripture of this nature.
