Yes the Bruder Figures fit in the cab because the doors open on this vehicle. Note: not all bruder vehicles doors open.

Can the backhoe be removed for towing a trailer?

The backhoe boom arm with bucket can be removed. It's attached to a base plate that slides left and right along the back of the vehicle. I'm not sure how your trailer hook up would work though. Good luck.
