Works as expected
I used it a couple of times to flatten a Shapton 1000 grit whetstone. Took only a couple of minutes and did a nice job.

Must have!
It is great stone flattener. I use this to keep my sharpening stone to keep flat, as it eventually start curving. I feel like my sharpening stone can not be useless without this. Unless use this flattener and keep the stone flat, we can't sharpen the knives in correct angle. It might even damage knives. This is a must have, if you sharpen your knife with stone. This is super easy to use. It is worth it for sure. Just buy it.

Sharp Pebble replaces defective Stone and the new one works excellently.
I recently bought the Flattening Stone from Sharp Pebble after having been very impressed with their other products. I used the FS on a small waterstone and was very happy with the results, it cleaned it up very quickly. That said, I was surprised to see that the FS has been worn down significantly. I had planned on using it on many of my older stones but realized it would be gone in no time if it wore in the manner it did with the first stone. I contacted Salma at Sharp Pebble with my concerns and she was very helpful. She explained that the FS I received must have been defective and replaced it with a new stone. The new FS arrives and worked perfectly with almost no visible wear. I would give the new FS 5 stars but because of the issues with the first stone, Iโm staying at 4 stars. Sharp Pebble is awesome.

This flattening stone is softer than my sharpening stones
I started sharpening knives as a hobby a year ago. I read everything I could find and watched a lot of videos. As I continued to study I realized that I needed a flattening stone. I had purchased some sharp pebble sharpening stones. They seemed good so I bought their flattening stone as well. When I started using the FS I noticed there was a lot of gray slush. As a beginner I thought this is the way it is supposed to be. So I continued to use the stone until this month (January 2026). During this time I used the pencil grid method to check that my stones were flat. But also during this time I was unsuccessful at getting a really sharp edge. Again I figured that was because I was a beginner. Then one day I looked at the FS. I was worn down almost flat. The diamond pattern grooves were gone. I figured I was doing something wrong so I bought a second FS. Right from the beginning there was a lot of gray slush and it seemed to take long time to erase the pencil grid even with the coarse side. I looked at the FS and there was already noticeable wearing down of the grooves. The flattening stone is supposed to be harder than the sharpening stone. This FS is very definitely softer than any of my sharpening stones. This FS is worthless. I wasted a lot of time because I thought my stones were flat and that it was my technique that was bad. It took me a year to figure out that my biggest problem was this FS from Sharp Pebble. I hope this honest review saves others from wasting time.

It works, Well.
After 2+ decades of flattening my stones the way Bob taught me from that Old House show. Sand paper attached to a flat block of hardwood. I decided to give one of these a shot. I'm glad I did. Soooo much easier. 1st off you can do it at the sink. 2nd you can soak your stones. 3rd no changing sand paper. 4th no sand in your stones. 5th easier to clean up. 6th much faster overall in every aspect. 7th easier to see your progress, provided you rinse your stones as you go. 8th It just works better. The instructions say if you use wet stones to get them wet and use the fine grit side. I would say, soak your stone and do it at the sink so you can rinse them and the block as you go. Starting with the fine side is all good and fine but if one of your stones is really cupped just use the course side. You will make a wet muddy mess. I highly suggest you have hand towels at the ready. Wifey was eyeballing me pretty hard while I was making a mess. I kept a hand towel at the edge of the counter to prevent it from dripping on the floor and wiped up the muddy water as I went. If you are doing more than one stone I suggest you do the same. It's pretty easy to see if it's flat. If you have a dirty spot on the stone, you air done yet (see pics). It should look nice and fresh when your done. With that said, I won't ever go back to the Bob way. Take my advice and buy one.

A solid brick !
I used it to flatten 1200, 4000 and 8000 g. Stones. Works great, the stone is flat and was delivered without any defects. Good size !

Despite it's Made in China, it performs very well
I have the Made in Japan 1000/6000 combo King water stone, I was skeptical about this Made in China flattening stone because some comments said the stone wasn't completely flat. But what the heck, I gave it a try... regardless, it did fix the curved surface of my water stone!!! I showed couple photos showing the work in progress. As you can see, the pencil mark on the top and bottom were gone, that means the silicon carbide of the Sharp Pebble was working. Now, I can continue to sharpen the blade of my Japanese wood plane.
