Curt 18221 Waterproof Rooftop Carrier Cargo Bag

We bought this Cargo Bag for our 2017 Honda Pilot (along with the roof rack shown in the photo). It worked great! This thing is waterproof - many on the market are only water "resistant". The heavy duty zipper wraps around three of the four sides, there's a flap that covers the zipper, and Velcro that holds down the flap. We drove 800 miles with this bag on our roof, through a small rainstorm, and pretty heavy wind, and it never moved and everything stayed dry. We were able to load 4 pilot cases (small suitcases), duffle bags, and more in this carrier, and it still had room for adding more (just have to be careful not to make it too heavy since the roof rack has a weight limit). It was really easy to put it in the roof rack and to tie down. We are super happy with this product. We originally bought one of the plastic pods for the roof, but returned it and we're really glad we did. This worked out much better for us. We didn't have the bulky pod on the roof once we arrived at our destination, and it'll be much easier to store when we're not using it. By the way, buying it through Amazon.com was cheaper than buying it directly from the manufacturer (Curt).

I'm one of those jerks that always reads the Amazon reviews, but never actually leaves one...well this bag worked so well I was compiled to finally write a review after years of buying stuff on Amazon... I recently drove from a northern state to the deep south and I used this bag on top of my Jeep. First of all the weather sucked before my move, and when a nice day appeared about a week or so before my move I jumped at the chance to load the bag up....then for about a week and a half, ​the bag endured a mix of snow, rain, sleet, and high wind. One the actual trip down, I hit about 2 hours or so of heavy rain. The moral of the story is that everything in the bag was 100% bone dry. Even if things had only gotten a little wet I would have been impressed, but this blew me away. The usability of the bag was also pretty good. It was easy to load up, and the included straps seem sufficient. While it was loaded before my move I only used those straps, and it seemed to hold well. For the actual move though I used some ratcheted tie downs in addition to those. This was for 2 reasons: 1) The included straps are difficult for adjustments during the move, and 2) I'm a very paranoid person and wanted to make 100% sure the bag stayed where I wanted it to be. Keep in mind that this bag is very large, which was perfect for me since I have a decent size roof rack. Also, you need to make sure it is completely full otherwise, it will flap on you (this may be common with all bags of this type). I ended up padding it with some pillows and blankets to make sure all space was used (note these pillows and blankets were around the zippered part of the bag and again were all bone dry). Not sure what else to say...if you are looking for a cargo bag and have the room for this one...buy it. Curt has other size bags as well...I assume they are all of the same quality.

Used on first trip from Michigan to Tennessee, there was some rain on the way down, this did NOT leak at all. We used it with the CURT 18153 Basket Style trailer hitch mounted cage, and I was happy that I purchase the bad slightly larger than the basket, it worked out very well. We put luggage in the bag, used the included straps, a couple of high quality winch straps, and a bungee cargo net. The bungee cargo net was the only problem, i will review it separately. The bag kept everything dry, the straps held very well, and the entire thing was well worth the money. Photo is right before we left, as you can see there was a little rain, and it rained off and on for most of the trip down south.

The price was great so I figured if it made the 4,000 mile trip I wouldn't mind tossing it after. Well, it handled the wind, rain, and 4k miles just fine. No rips. Held 3 xl duffle bags, one large suitcase and 2 carry-on suitcases. We did hit a storm by the Gulf, high wind and rain, it did leak some water and clothes in duffle bags got wet. We just tossed them in dryer. I will use again however I will place items in large garbage bags. Overall I am happy with product. I am leaving this review as I search for several weeks for the right bag and didn't feel comfortable with my purchase. Now I am happy I chose this bag.

This worked surprisingly well. Very sturdy, seemed well-made, and held a ton of stuff. We put everything in large plastic bins and coolers, both for protection but also because they fit very well inside the cargo bag, and filled it out. After it was all loaded we were concerned that the contents would shift when we braked or went over bumps or whatever, however it held everything very securely, and nothing shifted, even over bumpy, curvy dirt roads and frost heaves. The one negative was that it was that the first time we used it there was a learning curve pain in figuring out the best way to install, load, and then secure it. However, like anything, it took a long time the first time we did it, but went faster the next time as we figured it out. All in all we were very satisfied and through two long road trips in Alaska our gear arrived safe and sound.

Curt has been a go to brand for me for many years. I have trailer hitches, electrical harnesses and now this cargo carrier all made by Curt. As expected, the bag is sturdy and the zippers are easy to ZIP! I attached this to my truck bed rack and placed it on my tonneau. It was the perfect storage solution for my coming trip to Tofino.

Viajé 1700 km con la bolsa CURT en el techo de mi auto. Doble cierre muy fuerte, plástico grueso, calidad! Este tamaño es enorme. Gran satisfacción como cliente. La recomiendo. Le agregué una manta entre la chapa y la bolsa.

The bag is pretty tough which is a nice surprise. No idea about waterproof or water resistant, but it looks like it would do the job while not driving ... the sheer force of the wind might send water through the zipper though. It fits close to perfectly with the Curt roof rack cage and extender ... the straps are pretty good quality as well.
