This supplement supplies the third carotinoid identified as being essential for retinal health. I have not been using this long enought to see any improvement. I will update this review with more up to date info when I have it.

Hard to find a supplement for meso-zeazanthin, which makes up about 16% of the eye macula. This, along with zeazanthin making up another ~16% of the macula, and lutein ~32% of the macula, have also been show they they cross the blood-brain barrier in assisting brain health by neutralizing dangerous free radicals, fighting inflammation, and reducing oxidative stress. All three of these carotenoids that protect the eyes also protect the brain and are proven to support cognitive function, memory, sight, and mood. Though meso-zeazanthin can be converted from leutein (how fast?), many people do not consume enough of it. It is very wise to use a supplement like this in this higher dosage because it it very hard to find a direct food source for it. It helps night vision. My wife worked as nurse Her eyes doesn't get tired like before. Specially long day at the computer.

My dry AMD has stayed stable since I've added this supplement to Preservation. My Optometrist is in favor of continuing to use it daily.

I'm giving these 3 stars simply because I have no idea if it will help. I've been recently diagnosed with AMD - or Dry Macular Degeneration. Dr. advised me to take Areds2 and eat salmon, tuna and lots of leafy green vegetables. I've done a ton of reading and, as expected, there are a bazillion opinions on what can or should be done. One of the missing supplements in Areds2 is Meso Zeaxanthin. Supposedly this is made somewhere in the eye itself from 2 ingredients in Areds 2 and available in many recommended foods but wanted to add this hoping it helps.

I'm a diabetic and have been diagnosed 16 years ago, by my local hospital, my previous doctors surgery mixed up my records with my husbands, it took 15 years for my old and new GP to realize the mistake that was made by my first GP, hence my eyes are worse, I've been looking around to try to find something that could at least help a bit, since taking these tables, my eyes do seem to have improved a bit, I take these every day, most days my eyes seem better then before, but other times, they seem worse, but that only happens once every 2 to 3 months.. This is my honest opinion, I'm not sure if it would work for everyone, but I did take the gamble.
