I was a little sceptical of the hose reel but after having used it for a while not I'm pleased with how it works. The only problem I've had with it is we had someone water for us while we were gone and they tried to push the hose in when they couldn't figure out how to get the reel to do it. Messed up the hose inside so had to pull most of the hose out and let the hose reel do it's job, so no real issue. I mounted this to a 4 x 4 post (see pic) and it's rock solid buried about 2 ft of post in concrete and cut some grooves so bolts would fit and not have to add another board to mount to, came out clean looking and rock solid. Longevity? it's only been a month or so but it seems like it's good for the long haul but time will tell.

The instructions recommended a drill bit that was too large, so when I drilled into the stud, the bolts just spun freely. This meant I had to relocate the mount, drill another set of holes, and patch the old ones—talk about a DIY detour!Also, some of the instructions were hard to understand — definitely not a native-English writer.For anyone installing this on wood without anchors, I’d suggest starting with a smaller drill bit than what the instructions recommend. Only go larger if the bolts give you trouble. This little tip could save you a lot of time and frustration like I had.Despite the installation hiccup, the reel itself is fantastic. It’s sturdy, swivels smoothly, and rewinds the hose with ease. If you’re looking for a reliable hose reel and don’t mind straying from the instructions, this one is a solid choice. 5/12/2025> updated to 4 stars after receiving a full replacement unit under TWO YEAR warranty. TO BE FAIR HERE, evidently with my original issues & review below a year ago I did not follow the proper procedure to notify the manufacturer of my issues through Amazon? I called the support number I thought Amazon had listed. Their e-mail communications (I found months later) offering to send a complete replacement unit were in my spam e-mail unread (my error). I had called the company direct, evidently you need to work through Amazon via e-mail to send your address. Once I responded via e-mail to their e-mail offer with my info I had a complete brand new unit on my doorstep in a few days. The bottom line is the unit has a two year warranty and they stood behind it. That was the right move here as the unit was defective. I am hopeful this one holds up better. I will probably just use the replacement stainless steel 8’ connector hose I bought for it after the first hose sprung a leak. I will use this new replacement unit for a while and update if I have issues or it works okay after a year. **********XXXXX My Original review of the first unit is here for reference>>>>>>. I thought I found the perfect hose reel solution for my wife to use to water plants & pots scattered across our rear patio area of 50-70 ‘ that mimics what I use in the garage for my air compressor hose. A smooth & easy way to uncoil hose up to 90’ and have it recoil easily & quickly. I bought the Giraffe AW40 5/8th”x 90’ in May of 2024 with that thought . NOT SO. Within a couple of months the intake hose sprung a pin hole leak (see photo)then multiples. The mechanism for rewinding is not consistent or reliable ( see video) when pulling out hose and trying to let it recoil back. Sometimes you can see the hose carrier part (white part in gear) freeze & not move back and forth as it should to evenly coil from side to side. Sounds like some clanking / noise too. We have never just let it go, we always walk it back from where it has been stretched out. It rarely is out past 50’. I initially e-mailed Giraff customer support on leaking hose….nothing back. For the purchase price of $169.00 it is not what I expected. I would look elsewhere as others have similar comments.

This hose reel is the 5/8” hose width x 90’ length model. It was very easy to install because I had a stud in the perfect placement, so I didn’t use the anchors, only the lag bolts provided. It is VERY sturdy and secured to the wall.The functionality has been flawless. No leaks! The reel works exactly as designed. I pull the hose out to the correct length and it stays locked. A slight pull unlocks the hose and I slowly allow the hose to reel back into the housing as the excess water drains from the nozzle.Speaking of the nozzle, I am not having the negative experiences others have had with the nozzle. I added a quick release so I can change from the nozzle, to a power washer, to a pool sentry that fills our swimming pool. When the nozzle is attached, it functions perfectly. I like the on/off lever function because I have arthritis in my hands, so squeezing a handle can be painful and this function helps to alleviate that concern. The spray patterns are great for each of their intended use.The water flow has been uninterrupted and strong.This is the best hose reel that I’ve owned. Highly recommended!

After buying one of these hose reels and liking it, I bought about 9 months later. When I bought my first one, the reviews were higher. When buying the second one, I noticed they had trended downwards a bit. Well, it has been about 2.5 3 years of light use on my newer purchase and when I went to use it, water was pouring out of the bottom. Knowing it was out of warranty, I took it apart to see what was broken. Boy, is this thing designed to be disposable. The hose attaches to the reel with a plastic elbow (which had cracked). That elbow is secured to another plastic sleeve for the water inlet with a plastic c-clip. No standard, off-the-shelf parts here. And of course, not available from Giraffe Tools, either. Additionally, the hose is attached to the elbow using a compression fitting so you'd have to buy the entire hose for a failed plastic elbow. Using all plastic parts for the critical components does not make for a durable product. That, in and of itself, isn't a big deal if the product were designs it to be serviceable and replacement parts are available. That's not the case here. I contemplated ways to fix it until I noticed Costco sells an automatic reel which ADVERTISES it has a user-replaceable hose. It was longer and cheaper and is backed by a Costco lifetime warranty...I decided to cut my losses as it seems most hose reels on Amazon are a crap-shoot at least that's the picture I get from reading the reviews.TL;DR, It worked great...until it didn't. Important parts are all plastic. These parts are not standard items that can be purchased at a hardware store and are also not available from the company. For the price they're charging, I would look elsewhere.UPDATE:The first reel I bought kicked the bucket in the same fashion at about the 3.5 year mark. The only difference between the first and second reels I purchased was that the second one, which failed after 2.5 years was mounted outside whereas the first was mounted in my garage. I guess the indoor mounting prolonged the life by about a year...definitely avoid.

I really like this hose real. I have been researching different hose reels for a long time and to get a good one I was going to have to pay a lot like $500 plus which are very heavy and need to be mounted to something very strong. This hose reel is easy to install on any wall or pile and I like how it very easily stops where u want after extending it, it’s lightweight but nothing imunmanageable. I hope it holds up for along time because I try my best to take good care of my things and only buy things that will last me along time. I doubt the plastic sprayer holds up for too long it seems very cheaply made so I replaced it anyways with a brass one that I’ve had forever. If this hose reel lasts me along time without problems I plan on buying the pressure washer I love how it mounts on the wall and all the hoses are neatly organized. It would be so nice to be able to just pull out the pressure washer hose and have everything ready to go whenever I wanted to quickly pressure wash sonething

This was a nice little unit for a time but tragically, mine died and stopped retracting. We tried to fix it, but it never recovered sadly. I'll have to get a new one. As pretty fully inoperable these days and it was supposed to save my wife a ton of time realistically and has not.

I had been looking for a good retractable hose reel and came across the Giraffe AW 30 1/2inch retractable. I was impressed with it as soon as I opened the box. Well-made and nicely designed. I did not attach to my house and attached to an existing structure made just for a hose reel. Set up and installation is simple, however please be aware that it's heavy and needs a secure mount. The reel comes with a special bracket and lag bolts that the reel attaches to and this must be securely attached to your house or a very strong post. Giraffe shows an installation on the side of a home. I purchased it last year and put it away for the winter season. Very easy to put on the bracket and take off. When I set it up this year there was an issue with retracting. I contacted Giraffe for some guidance on how to repair the unit. They asked for a short video of the problem. Within days I received a reply stating that they would ship me a new unit. I wasn't expecting that and of course was very pleased that the company stood behind their product and honored their warranty without any hassle. If you are looking for a retractable reel, you'll be pleased with this one.

Pas encore installé car acheté en fin de saison. Ce sera pour le printemps prochain. Le produit me semble solide. On verra à l'usage mais je suis satisfait de la qualité pour le moment.

Hose retracts and works fine however weight of hose filled with water has caused plastic mounting to sag with sun exposure. Would not recommend this design for the 100ft hoseUPDATED: Fantastic customer service. Followed up on my review and replace unit Seller deserves 5Star based on desire to make it right

Came as advertised

Sometimes gets stuck when reeling in. It is fairly heavy so make sure what ever it is you have it attached to is strong and/or reinforced. It is a smaller gage hose but has lots of pressure. The spray nozzle works well, the auto reel works good other than Sometimes having to give it a little tug to get it to continue to roll in. It is very easy to install, also easy to take off the mount to bring in for storage.
