I chose to order three sets of these because I have had this brand and design before in shinny stainless. I have ordered several sets from SMKW in the past. I like the weight and feel of this design. The small version is also fun to throw but the weight has some penatration limits. The cord grips hold up pretty good unless you stack the knives up on the target too many times. I like to throw in threes, mostly half throws, and sometime I clip the cord. Considering my many throws the cords hold up very well. I have never had the black set. I liked the way they looked and hoped they were as good quality as the old ones I still have. The Price wasn't bad either. I have thrown knives for over fifty years and have used many types. I like the cost, quality, weight, size, combanition of these sets so when I wear these out I will order more just like this set if they are still around or if I'm still around since they hold up so well. There are a few knives out there that are better yes and many other designs that I have tried but over all I prefure these. The sheaths of these sets are not as nice as my older sets. They still look and function well though. When I ordered these knife sets I watched the cost calculator on the right side of the Amazon page and the shipping cost was the same for three sets as it was for one set. After I ordered and got my confirmation I saw that I had been charged for three shippings. This is not the first time I have noticed this. This is very much like a bait and switch so watch your shipping charges. The company that I ordered these from (Sherry's Weapons, Plus More) did not have the knives on hand and I had to wait while they got them. They did keep me informed and I recieved the knives in good shape. Since I was not in a hurry this was not a problem. Very happy with my purchase.

These were the first throwing knives I ever bought and of course, I am a beginner [...]. What I like about these knives is that they are small enough to go unoticed on your hip (even if you re-wrapped the handles in neon pink mason line like I did) yet heavy enough to stick with force. This has allowed me to throw them overhand using all my strength, like a "fast ball", without any spin. I imagine this style of throwing (no spin) is superior to throwing with spin since you can forgo worrying about range. Simply throw straight and whatever the knife hits it will hit tip first. Good tool steel although it has a distinct grain making sharpening a chore. Throwing knives aren't supposed to be edge sharp but I use these as actual utilitarian cutting knives as well. Of course, when one knife is hit by another one thrown, the flimsy handle wrapping will be cut right off. I decided to re-wrap with a high visibility neon colored mason line because it is very tough and easy to find when a knife bounces off the target in grass or whatever. I also re-wrapped because without some type of covering the handles are very angular and uncomfortable to the hand (un-rounded edges). Good knives that will go un-noticed yet pack a punch. Cheap enough not to stress about losing one or two. I've actually talked to police officers who had to be alerted that I actually had them on my hip, they are that hard to see while open carried.

Large on the heavier side of this size knives (thicker than usual). This brings them closer to competition knives and therefore they are good for training. Used to be my favorites for spin throws, but not so good for no-spin throws for some reason (hence 1 start off). After several months of intense throwing, tip of one of three bent and when straightening, it broke (re-sharpened, now it is shorter, but I throw it nonetheless). Though I think they are reasonably strong for such kind of knives. Forget about the thread -- it will come off soon if you don't wrap it (I used duct tape of bold colors to find in the grass).

I don't know anything about throwing knives or HOW to throw knives, I just do this for a hobby JUST SO WERE ALL CLEAR!. This is one of the first sets of throwing knives I have purchased. The weight of these knives were amazing, nice and heavy but not super heavy. I really like the single edge these knives have, it gives it a nice normal looking knife look, but the cool thing is that you can throw it! When you hit a target board with these they really stick in. They are pretty easy to throw, I have been throwing from about 10-12 feet away, and from up close at about 4-5 feet away. I honestly throw these knives for an hour before I realize where the time went. The sheath is nice for storing these. Only thing negative I would have to say about these knives is the cord that is wrapped around the handles. Yes it makes it look nice, but its cord, when you are throwing them eventually you are going to hit the cord with another knife and its going to get severed and fall apart. That should be common sense. So I just threw mine until one of the cords came undone and I just cut the others off, much better without the cord. I would definitely buy more of these

Took that little twine wrap off the handles straight out the box, cleaned off the residue from some double sided tape to help the string stay on. I'm not an expert just learning and trying out different style knives. They feel good, weight is nice, and stick real good. They are really sharp so if your not watching you will get cut unless you dull it. I like them so far. EDIT---- Did bend a tip today, but what happened would of broke another knife. One landed in full sideways somehow and next throw centeted the wide part of the sideways knife for a perfect straight on stick. This was no defect or bad production as I said it would of broke the tip on most cheap knives. So these are good knives just might have to use hammers and files to straighten them back out after a bad throw. Will order more later. They throw great!

Good knife, came very sharp and love the size and weight. My problem is with the string wrapped around the handle. After just maybe 10 throws it broke and began unraveling. But i guess if you don't want/need the string, you can just pull it off and you'll still have a decent knife.

I started throwing knives about 3 months ago. Since that time, I have tried several knives of various sizes and weights (more than 10). This one is one of the two best that I have tried (the other is the Gil Hibben Gen. 2 large throwing knife set). They are both about 8 1/2 inches long. This seems to be the ideal size and weight for a throwing knife-i.e.-not too heavy or too light. In addition, if you look closely, there is a small lip or downturn at the end of the knife handle. This helps to direct the knife down towards the target as it leaves the hand. One of the secrets that I have learned about knife throwing is to allow the knife to slide from the hand at the moment when it points towards the target. The knife will then fly straight to the target without having to turn or tumble as it does so. Don't worry about the fact that the cord comes unwrapped after a short time of use-it actually helps the knife leave the hand more smoothly. Finally, knife throwing is a skill that requires time and experience to develop. If wouldn't be any fun if you could master it right away. Some people recommend starting with a heavier knife as it is easier to throw. Although this is true, these knives will help you develop the proper technique and form. If you can only afford one set of knives, I recommend these as first place and the Hibben gen. 2 as second. I hope you have fun and enjoy the sport of knife throwing as much as I have

I am very pleased with these knives. They hold up under inexperienced treatment and rough conditions. I throw from 10 - 20 feet into a square of plywood. If you are looking for a set of starter throwers, buy these! They are not designed to be used for anything else though. Pros: blanced - can be thrown with accuracy by a noob from either the blade or the handle sturdy - survives the occasional wildly terrible throw striking concrete, brick flagstone, and aluminum fence posts resharpenable - a couple of strokes on a cheap whetstone smoothed out blade damage by one of said fence posts ready - the point is presharpened, and there's a slight edge, you can take them out of the box and send them "schwunking" into your target right away *see cons Cons: string handle wrap - this is purely decorative and will fail within the first 25 throws, *you might as well remove when you open, and use some adhesive remover to get the glue off. powder coating - wears away gradually

These are very nice throwing knives. They are what I call a medium weight knife that is heavy enough to throw well and razor sharp to stick easily. These are not the really light weight, weak metal knives but are solid feeling and well balanced in the hand. Definitely was a good buy.

I bought these because I like the style with a straight spine for the option of no-spin throwing at short distance. Nearly half an inch of the tip of one knife broke right off on the first day... I thought Gil Hibbens were supposed to be high quality, but the steel seems quite brittle for a throwing knife. I have cheaper knives that bend so at least you can fix them without a grinder or a file. All I have at the moment is a file and after about 6 hours I still have a very long way to go to get anything close to a point on it. I suppose because of the design itself, the blade comes sharp and as a result the tip is very thin. I'm extremely disappointed, as I had assumed the steel would be of higher quality. As for the knives themselves, they have some good weight to them and the center of balance is not in the middle; the handles are heavier than the blade because they are thicker. They are absolutely beautiful and the entire blades come razor sharp which is nice but generally not a good thing for throwing knives. Disappointing... Wish I bought something else
