Pen is a Triple Threat! 👍
I recently bought the SKILCRAFT B3 Aviator Multi-function Pen, and I’m really happy with it. It’s lightweight, comfortable to hold, and has a sleek all-black design that looks professional without being flashy. The black ink writes smoothly (no skips or smudges!), the red ink works well for highlighting or notes, and the mechanical pencil is a nice bonus—it’s reliable and doesn’t feel like an afterthought, which is rare for multi-pens. What really stood out to me, though, is the story behind this pen. It’s made in the USA by SKILCRAFT, a company that’s part of the AbilityOne Program, which creates jobs for people who are blind or have significant disabilities. Knowing that this pen was crafted with such care and purpose makes using it even more meaningful. If you’re looking for a practical, well-made multi-pen that also supports a great cause, this one’s worth every penny. It’s become my go-to for work, and I’d definitely buy it again.

Best multifunction pen available
This pen has 3 writing functions in a slim and efficient spacing. The inserts are half length, but can be changed out for different color ink and mechanical pencil options. The case is also metallic so works with some touch screens (including my phone). The workmanship is high quality and durable. Due to the half length refills, the ink runs out faster than a normal pen. The mechanical pencil option holds several leads. This is the one and only writing instrument I carry and I have used it (and it's predecessor) for over 15 years, ever since I discovered it. It is professional enough for a boardroom, durable enough for the shop, and efficient enough to please an engineer.

Great pen/pencil, worth the money!
When I first got one of these as a gift, I was worried it might be of low quality. I was pleasantly surprised! The sturdy metal frame gives the writing utensil a nice heft, and it feels elegant and of good quality. I like its thinness: slightly larger than a typical wooden pencil. The turning mechanism sometimes fails in these sorts of devices, but this one is sturdy and has lasted me quite a while! I suspect the pen cartridges aren’t anything special, and a lot of the lead in the pencil was broken when I got it, but ultimately this was a very nice gift and I ended up buying another one to give to someone else!

Great versatility, needs better grip and/or slightly bigger
I liked the idea of this pen/mechanical pencil combo. I have multiple occasions where I need to switch quickly between ink and lead and it was difficult keeping both a pen and pencil on my person at all times. This seemed like the obvious solution, and it is. However, the slim size, matte black color, too-smooth body make it just a little less than perfect for me. I really wish the body was a slightly larger diameter and had a little bit of grip/knurl too it. I wouldn't say I have huge hands or anything, but I find that gripping the smaller body gets tiresome after a whole (it could be that I'm getting old too). It would help if there was another color than black available too. It's slim size and dark color helps it blend int o small spaces, like next to a monitor base or on a shelf. A bright steel/cobalt blue would be awesome for this pen. It's a great tool, but it could be better.

B-3 Aviator Pen
Do you want a multi-function pen - Then this one's for you, my friend. I have one surviving Rotring 'Quattro' - two Staedtler 'Retro's' - Cross 'Multi'. Not a 'pen-snob', mind you. However, I do demand a quality and decent performing pen/pencil combo AND went with this route years ago, owing to work and the simplicity of carrying a single writing instrument, on my person. The original 'Retro', was/is still a good performer, along with the 'Quattro', however neither of these are being manufactured nowadays. The current models and/or configuration of these two 'classics', leave much to be desired... And the asking price is ridiculous. Skilcraft's I used extensively, in the Service, 35+ years ago. They were great performers and nearly 'bullet-proof'... And they were FREE!!! This B-3 Aviator reminds me of the German built Rotring's and Staedtler's, one could get, way-back-when... The construction is very-good to excellent. The body material is of excellent quality, and lends to the balance and feel in your hand, as one writes. The changing mechanism, is firm and similar to Cross' design - No push buttons, here. And change out of depleted cartridges is easy. The pen is a real pleasure to use! Plus, the price is G R E A T... If one didn't want three writing implements in one - Drop a cartridge and replace it with a 'stylus tip' instead, or use a 'highlighter'. Me - I am 'old-school', and just want a decent writing instrument. which won't break the bank... Try it, you'll love it.
