Great results for a low cost
These pre-amps are really nice, very low noise, don't add color to the sound in contrast with other pre-amps (which is desirable in certain situations), and the high-detail feature is quite nice!

Worth the money and then some
5 stars for what you get for the cost. I also have the 530 eq and a old rack DBX 160x. I figured, I'd complete the DBX channel strip by adding the 580 pre, and it really did surpass my expectations. Character pre, this is not. But with the added hi and lo EQs you can definitely add some very musical character to the source. Particularly the hi band. It adds a very nice air to vocals and sheen to acoustic guitar. The lo band has to be used sparingly, but perhaps when using, for instance, an SM57 on a kick or low Tom, it would come in handy to add in some bottom end weight back in. Overall, it's a very neutral and transparent pre that does still add some depth to the recordings. So far, I've been impressed with it on most sources, guitars, drums, Vocals and as a bass DI

Solid value versatile mic-pre/DI with switchable EQ
Clear sound from the 580 mic pre. Also has a good sounding instrument input, a perfect DI for my Bass. Bonus is the easy to read VU meter and very useable, switchable EQ. A solid unit for my 500 series rack, happy I have it.
