This chalk holder works great. I didn't have any issues at all with the chalk slipping (like some have indicated). The chalk it came with is superior to all other chalk I have used (I think I have a cheap chalkboard or something), I have had real problems finding good chalk.

Bit of an odd headline, but it's true; these little guys are great stand-ins for First Order code cylinders. They require minimal alteration for acceptable use (just shave off or paint the white top silver and remove the chalk) though for 501st approval you may want to go another route. At under $3 per, though, this was a miracle for Lt. Mitaka, who apparently needed 4 of the things right on the front of his uniform (this is why you got stuck with Kylo Ren duty, isn't it...). Similar chalk holders started at over twice the price. I admit, that's probably because they're better chalk holders, but I really didn't care about that particular aspect. For the sake of being slightly useful, I will say that the chalk release mechanism is a bit fiddly and it's very easy to eject the entire piece very quickly. I think it would work well while the chalk is long and sticks a bit out of the holder lip by default, but when it gets to half size and you have to very gently slide the chalk to the desired length while holding down the eject plunger, it might be a little annoying. But hey. *Code cylinders*! Final note, these look pretty good for the First Order-era versions, but there are better bases for Imperial-era ones

Love this chalk holder, but the brand of chalks I have do not fit. My chalk pieces are too thin and are not gripped securely. It comes with one piece of chalk, which will last me quite some time. I’m assuming there are other brands of chalk out there that are the same and I’ll deal with it at that time.

This chalk "holder" is the single worst thing I've ever bought on Amazon, and that's saying a *lot*. It is garbage, plain and simple. It comes with a piece of chalk but right out of the package I couldn't get the chalk out. I had to push the end down extremely hard and then pull the chalk out with my fingernails, which took a ton of force. Obviously that's a nonstarter. But then the first time I tried writing with it the chalk went flying right back into the holder and I actually scratched the chalkboard with the metal on the rim of this piece of garbage. Seriously, this is the cheapest piece of garbage I think I've ever seen and doesn't function in any way. This company and Amazon should be ashamed of themselves for producing and selling such a terrible waste of time and money. It doesn't work straight out of the package, brand new. What has this world come to? How do they get away with this? And what is really so hard about designing and producing an actually functioning simple chalk holder? Stay away from this product and this "company." This little chalk holder symbolizes everything wrong with our hyper-consumerist use once and throw away society and world, The snake has eaten its tail and the holder has eaten its chalk. I'm flabbergasted and confused how things got so bad in this world honestly. All I wanted was a simple chalk holder so my hands wouldn't get so dry. And now I'm peering into the abyss pondering why anything exists at all and whether it should. Lovely.

I have an older version of this type of chalk holder and it’s made much better with thicker metal and it will last a lifetime. This new version looks the same until you pick it up and realize how lightweight it is and the plastic tip on the end fell off the first time it was being used. my grandson wanted to give it to his teacher.

Product is fine, except for a little blemish on piston's white plastic, just out of the packing. Clip was the important thing to choose this over others, but inside edges of clip are rather sharp - scratch the card-board/file-cover/pocket fabric. Big down side is 10mm chalk slips out and becomes loose. Finding 12mm may be an answer, but chalks are hardly manufactured to that precision, and may erode a little with use.
