Review: Get better results, hand grind your coffee! - Imagine this product as if it were your black pepper grinder. You know, the one that grinds your peppercorns so perfectly every time? Well, this is the coffee bean version of it and by far this is the best one I've used. The entire package comes with The grinder itself, the grinder handle, a nice little bag to keep it clean/scratch free and a manual. The grinder itself is made of stainless steel and feels very high quality, not the cheap painted plastic some others have on desertcart. First and foremost, find the optimal grinding size before you start grinding your beans. To do so, take off the very bottom(the part that catches the ground beans). Finding the perfect setting is a bit of trial and error so do not expect amazing results, I like to keep a logbook to figure out what I like the most without having to waste an excessive amount. Now, let's talk about the results of the grinder. By far, grinding your coffee beans at home vs. having it preground gives the coffee a much better taste and is consistent with the product you are using. I, for example, use a french press and require my grounds to be course. After about 4 cups of coffee, I got the settings dialed in, and now, I make pretty consistent coffee to my personal taste. Grinding experience: Lastly, let's talk about grinding the coffee itself. You have to work for your coffee. If you are looking to get a nice coffee fix in the morning, wake up five extra minutes early to grind the beans. If you make 4 cups or so, it will take you at least 5 minutes to fully grind the beans. However, all that extra work you put in, you get to savor the results once you finish so it's not bad. If anything, you are getting a nice hand workout in the morning! In conclusion, if you are looking for a non-electric coffee grinder, you will not be disappointed with this product! I hope you enjoy your new tool to make better, fresher coffee! Review: We really did like this grinder a lot - We really did like this grinder a lot. It worked quite well for us. We used it every single day. However, it only lasted six months before the grinding stones(or whatever you call them) wore down to where they were too smooth to grind the beans any longer. Now we're stuck drinking some left over crappy ground Folgers coffee we had left until we can get another grinder. I would still recommend this grinder for "occasional" use, such as whenever electricity is not available or if you're the type that doesn't drink coffee every day. It's pretty nifty, although it does require manual labor which may be a bit too much of a burden for the elderly or disabled. That's your call. For us, I think it's time to purchase an electric grinder, but how do I know it will work as well and last much longer than six short months without costing an arm and a leg? Any suggestions?

What a terrific little device the Ice Coals Manual Coffee Grinder is
I just returned from a three-month tour of the United Kingdom. Prior to my departure, I purchased an Ice Coal Manual Coffee Grinder from amazon.com to take along with me so that I could freshly grind my own coffee beans each morning to brew in the travel-version french-press that I had also brought with me. What a terrific little device the Ice Coals Manual Coffee Grinder is! Works perfectly, doing precisely what I hoped it would do. I absolutely love it! When I returned home from my trip, I contacted the people at Ice Coals to inform them that I had inadvertently left the removable crank-handle portion of my coffee grinder behind in a hotel room (at the very tail end of my trip). At that time, I inquired about the possibility of purchasing a new crank-handle to replace the part that I had lost. The response of the people at Ice Coals went WAY beyond my expectations! Although they were unable to sell me the hand-crank portion of the coffee grinder by itself, they offered instead to send me a new entire Ice Coals Manuel Coffee Grinder---at no cost! They even paid for shipping. I was blown away by their generosity and the excellent customer service I received. I highly recommend the Ice Coals Manual Coffee Grinder and I cannot sufficiently praise the fabulous service that I received from the people of this company. Oh, just one last thing I wish to mention: Ice Coals was having some difficulty with its email system for a short while, so if anyone out there attempted to reach the customer-service department of Ice Coals and was unsuccessful in getting a response, I encourage you to try again. Thank you, Ice Coals!

Original Broke after 4 months, replacement broke after only 2 months
UPDATE - (6/29/16): It really hasn't been all that long since I received my replacement grinder. I'm disappointed to say that it, too, has broken. Every time my grinder breaks, it's the exact same issue--the plastic piece that sits directly above the grind coarseness knob. I emailed Ice Coals two nights ago to let them know I needed to once again call upon my lifetime warranty. So far, I have not heard back from them. Personally, when I see "100% guaranteed" and "lifetime warranty," I tend to believe that implies I will get a quality product. If that's what you are looking for, do yourself a favor and keep looking. While on one hand I hope the company continues to honor their 'lifetime" replacement guarantee, there's a big part of me that would rather not have to continue to ask for replacements 4-5 times a year. Either way, I'll be looking for a new grinder. UPDATE - (May 2016) I did eventually receive a refund of my original purchase price in addition to the replacement. UPDATE (4/18/16): Since I promised to update my review after hearing back from Ice Coals, here goes. The company wasted no time sending me a new grinder. That was awesome and it took less time than I expected. However, I have NOT heard any word on when I will receive my refund under the "100% money back guarantee" even though I included a copy of my Amazon invoice with my original order. **************** Original review: I hope to be able to update this review with a little bit of good news. After only 4 months of use, the plastic washer that holds the ceramic burr in place cracked, leaving my grinder completely useless. Until this happened, I loved this product. It's great for traveling. I'm a coffee snob who brings my own beans to grind and drink when I travel. When I take a trip by car, I even bring along my own pour over coffee pot. So having fresh ground coffee is more than just a little important to me. The description says "100% money back guarantee" along with a promise of replacement. I've emailed Ice Coals and will update my review accordingly based upon the swiftness and ease of my refund and replacement. If they follow through, it'll be a 4-star review. If not, expect to see a downgrade to one star.

Really nice grinder!
Very nice little grinder. My first, as I bought it to use with the French Press at the same time. Read numerous reviews and this one got consistently high marks. Seems to be a well-made and nicely-designed unit, and the few times I've used it, it worked great. I feel they could've been a bit clearer in their manual regarding grind-coarseness adjustment, but my brief experimenting yielded good results. The silicone band is very useful for comfortable gripping when grinding. Overall, very pleased and would recommend. Plus, I get a bit of exercise when using (vs having another electronic toy that might stop working some morning). Getting a good price didn't hurt either.

No frills all-in one coffee grinder that doesn't make a mess.
No frills all-in one coffee grinder that doesn't make a mess. Crank to grind, but it may take some cranking to churn out enough grinds for your drink. Think of it as a morning workout for coffee. Luckily, it doesn't take much effort other than just standing there and spinning the handle. Beans fill in from the top, and grinds collect in the container attached underneath. No mess or fuss. Has a simple brushed stainless steel design that looks great on the counter. Pros: Easy to fill and collect the grinds without getting them everywhere. The handle and top lid pop off so that you can fill it with coffee beans, but the handle stays on just fine while grinding. The fine ground setting is great and perfect for espresso. I don't usually grind very course, but it is capable, if desired. Cons: It can take over 150 turns to get enough grinds for the espresso machine, but cranking is not difficult. There is some guessing on how fine the grinds will be with adjustment, so you just have to play around with the dial. Bottom Line: Get an electric grinder if you don't want to work for your coffee. But, for everyone else, this is a great little grinder that you can easily tote around. The brushed stainless steel design fits in any kitchen.

Liked it till the material failed [two items]
*update* Sorry to update that the second one I bought broke as well, this time after less than three months, same type of failure. In response to my question whether this was typical, I received : " Thanks for your message. We discontinued this product. -Thanks " Seller refunded the first, and initiated a refund for the second. *First review* Mine broke today, after using it for nearly 11 months. The description of the failure fits the one in this review: https://www.amazon.com/review/R8NS829GPV0OX/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B016BJ15VQ I hope the company will take care of it. Till it broke -- Pros: * compact * can set grinder coarsening level * traditional feel Cons: * laborious (it is manual, after all) * for Italian Moka (stove top) -- the container is enough for about 2-4 persons portions
