Still awesome, 3 years on!
I often work late nights and need to sleep past sunrise, which in my area can be as early as 2:20 a.m. in the summer! I got this to replace an old sleep mask that was sadly no longer being made, and found that this one was even superior to my old standby. I really can't say enough about it, and this is after using it daily for three years, traveling with it, and even running it through the occasional wash cycle! (It can come apart during washing, but is easily glued or pressed back together). But what makes this mask really special and effective, is that it not only blocks out all light (the first mask I've ever used to do that 100%), but also allows you to keep your eyes open. Now, uhm, I don't keep my eyes open while I sleep! But the point is, there is no actual pressure of any kind on your eyelids, like most or all other sleep masks. This makes for a totally comfortable night's rest, or just a moment to "duck out of it all" for example on a plane, while meditating, or whatever, because when adjusted right it provides total blackness. It also does an amazing job of helping me sleep when I have those seemingly endless moments of insomnia. When your eyes are open, but it's pitch dark all around you and you're lying down, it's amazing how fast your body gets the hint and signals your brain to sleep. So that's helpful as well: it makes me sleepy, then keeps me asleep by blocking out early morning light, or the eerie glow of all our modern electronic gizmos. When my old standby sleep mask went out of production, and mine had worn out, I tried a big handful of sleep masks via Amazon, searching in frustration for something that worked and helped me stay asleep. I almost passed on this one, because of the gimmicky name on the front. But I'm glad I took the plunge, as this mask is by far the best and the only one that is 100% effective, AND doesn't put pressure on my eyelids. I can't recommend it enough. Hope it works for you just as well as it works for me.

Wonderful
These are the best light-blocking blindfolds I’ve found. They block light extremely well without putting pressure on your eyes, so they’re very comfortable to wear. They’re also used in orientation and mobility training, which speaks to how effective they are. I highly recommend them if you need reliable, full light blocking.

Comfortable total blackout mask--one of my travel essentials
My fav travel accessory. I had one and couldn't find it so bought this one for a recent trip. On a plane, train, car, or a room without blackout blinds, if I put this mask on and put in some earplugs, I am guaranteed to fall fast asleep. It completely blocks all light but there are little holes in the foam for your eyes, so you can open them and still just see nothing but black. It weighs next to nothing and folds, so it's a travel essential for me.

Overpriced but functions well
Overpriced for such simple construction, it is foam glued to a piece of plastic. The plastic is strangely larger than the foam. The foam is perfectly soft and blocks out light well, but not recommended if you have a latex sensitivity. It is light and comfortable (except for the oversized plastic edges). This should be at most $5.

STOP and READ! I used one star so you would read!
These are great, but flawed and CAN BE FIXED. Sure, they keep the light out the best and allow you to move your eyes/eyelashes in complete darkness. The problem, as others have noted here, is that the flat, thin plastic is sharp edgewise and is so darn over sized (see the ad photo) as to prevent any sleeping on your side with the mask on. I have bought these glasses for about 10 years, due to their (laying on your back) effectiveness. Finally, it came to me three years ago, a two part fix: 1. cut the plastic around the edge with some scissors! You can take 1/4" off all along the glasses, especially around the nose cutout (except the very ends which have the slots for the band) and that makes all the difference in the world comfort wise, and has no effect at all on the opaqueness or light blocking ability of the item. Now, (#2) here's another, equally important modification, an even better trick. Get some good, black (or any color, really) gaffers (duct, "duck", whatever) tape and remove the Velcro mask band ends and then put several layers of wide tape on the outside of the large black plastic sheet that comprises the non-foam part of the MindFold system. Then cut two little slots in the tape where the slots are in the black plastic and "re-string" the head band, and, you're done. What have you done? Extended the life of these $12 sleep goggles about three or more years with 45 seconds' work. In my experience, the plastic cracks from fatigue starting about 12 months in. With the gaffers tape on, the mask's plastic and crack all it wants, in fact the sheet can break, mine did about two years ago, and they are even more comfortable and just as light tight, even better because they bend more easily to your facial contours, with the tape on the outside. Save money, have fun, keep the same sleep mask for years, and, make it much, much, much more comfortable! Are you listening, Mindfold?)

Actually does block out 98-100% of light
I've tried a number of these eye masks, and this is the only one I've found that blocks out all or nearly all light (at least for me). When sitting upright in meditation, it blocks out 100%, and when lying on my back, more like 98%. This is perfect for my purpose, which involves a kind of meditation on the "inner light" which emerges only in complete darkness. When focused on the inner light, which first appears as a kind of white or red visual snow, after 10-20 minutes it starts to emerge as blue or purple blobs, then more defined shapes. Some people report geometric patterns after that, but I've never gotten to that experience. Perhaps I will, thanks to this eye mask. This mask is not perfect however. The foam presses on my nose in a way that slightly restricts my breathing. It's a mild annoyance only for me though. And the mask itself is made of materials that I fully expect to degrade over a year or two. I'll be pleasantly surprised if that doesn't happen, but it seems to me like the foam will eventually fall apart, or come loose from the plastic. The velcro strap on the other hand is quite robust, and I can make the mask very tight on my head if desired. It is also not comfortable for side sleeping. Overall, I recommend this mask, especially for meditation or for sleeping on your back. It is rare to find an eye mask that actually blocks out 100% of light, at least for me.

This is a great sensory deprivation mask
This is a great eye mask for relaxing the mind. The MindFold was actually created to be a sensory deprivation tool used for meditation. Hence the name "Mind"+"Fold". It's designed for relaxing the mind. This is how I use it. I do not sleep with it. So I cannot comment on it's use as a sleep mask. Here's a quick rundown of the pros and cons. Pros: * Capable of 100% light blockage * The foam is soft * The stretchable headband's Velcro doesn't connect at the back of the head * There's so much eye room depth, my eyelashes (which are long) don't even slightly touch it Cons: * While very deep, the eye cutouts could be a little wider * Light leakage can happen if it slides a little while using it * Needs to be fairly tight to totally prevent light leakage I've tried dozens of similar eye masks, the only other eye mask that I've tried that's a close second is the Bedtime Bliss. I have heard that the Tempur-Pedic Sleep Mask is the only eye mask that's as effective, but I've not tried that yet. Compared to the Bedtime Bliss, this is capable of blocking out all light, while the Bedtime Bliss only blocks about 90-95% of the light. For both me and my wife, the Bedtime Bliss had a large amount of light leakage near the nose, no matter how it was positioned or tightened. We have very different noses. My nose is large and pointy, hers is wide and short. The problem with the Bedtime Bliss is that, while it contours to a "human" face, it will only properly contour to a certain percentage of people, and for the rest of us, it just doesn't work right, but it is still much better than most of the other masks I've tried, except for the Mindfold. I have read complaints about the fact that the Mindfold is just a Velcro headband, attached to a flexible plastic eye shield, with foam glued to it. This is in fact what it is, but it is very effective nonetheless. The design is simple and it works very well. The Mindfold's thick foam contours to just about any face very effectively. That's why it works so well to block out light. While it's not memory foam like the Tempur-Pedic Sleep Mask is, the foam still works quite well for it's purpose. It would work with less force needed if it was made of the more expensive memory foams available. But that would jack up the price considerably. The Velcro strap is not a cheap strap. It's high quality stretchable Velcro. The strap is better quality than most. The Bedtime Bliss has a lower quality strap, and it is not replaceable. The Bedtime Bliss strap joins at the back of the head, so you always feel a lump on the back of your head when you lay your head flat on a pillow. The MindFold's strap is replaceable, so I could put a different strap if I wanted to. Also, it joins on the side, and not on the back, so you don't feel a lump at the back on your head. If you lay down with the back of your head on a pillow, it's very comfortable. You don't even notice the strap. Not so with the Bedtime Bliss. That's something I hate about the Bedtime Bliss. The flexible plastic eye shield is thin. You can easily flex it with your hands. This is intentional, and not done to be cheap, as some have suggested. It needs to be thin, so it can flex just enough to contour to your face to a certain degree. If it was a thick inflexible piece of plastic, it wouldn't work as well because it then wouldn't contour to different face shapes and sizes. I have heard complaints that the MindFold is not useful for side sleepers. I could definitely see that being the case. However, that is not it's intended use. Bottom line, this is one of the most effective light blocking eye masks you can find. If you're looking for a mask that completely blocks out light, that lets you open your eyes without your lashes touching it, then this is a great buy. The Tempur-Pedic Sleep Mask is also a viable solution, according to many other sources, but it costs 3 times as much. Nearly all of the other eye masks let in light. But if you're looking for a sleep mask for a side sleeper, try something else.

Seriously the best sleep mask I've tried so far.
So the image on this page of this doesn't properly showcase this item. I thought the front part was some kind of fabric, like leather, or pleather or felt or something. It's actually a flexible plastic. So when I actually received the item I was about to get severely let down and sad, as it's not what I thought it was. I was thinking I would get poked with a plastic edge while sleeping or that it would be uncomfortable. I was WRONG! Way wrong. I tried it on and the strap of this is perfect. It has the elasticity to help it fit right bit even if and when the elastic starts to give after a longer period of use, the way the band is, you will have the ability to adjust it to keep the perfect fit since both ends adjust, kind of like goggles. Also, the plastic part I was worried about doesn't even touch my face or cause any discomfort. It's flexible and bends to fit your face without touching you. The foam padding attached allows you to be able to open your eyes while the mask it on, and it completely blocks the light. This is the best light block sleep mask I've tried ever. It's really the best sleep mask I've tried. comfort to have on while sleeping, light blocking, ease of adjustments, all of it.

This mask is wonderful, it completely hide all light which is great for someone like me, that's a bit claustrophobic. I have to have a Brain MRI every couple of years and this is fabulous. At my last MRI the Doctor asked me for the information about how I bought it, as it's got no metal in it and is great for going into the machine. I have nothing but good things to say about this Mask.
