Is this any different than the acqua di gio that is sold in the clear bottle?

Yes. It is different altogether. It is a much stronger concentration of scent (hence parfum and not eau de toillette, Google fragrance concentrations if curious) and much less aquatic and citrus, much more woodsy and incense. Screw the guy in the other answer, this is much stronger and lays by far longer, I've smelled it on my dirty laundry days or a week or more later. Also, saying it doesn't smell as good is wrong. This one smells much better, it's just aimed at an older crowd. The aquatic style in the original is weaker and aimed at young high school/college kids, it's weaker because they generally over apply cologne. Also being an aquatic it's less offensive and easier to like, which is good for young boys who don't yet know how to be themselves for fear of offending or being rejected. The profumo (or parfum/perfume in English) is much better for an older more refined man as opposed to the weaker original for juveniles. Also, if you like the smell of incense (before it is lit, the sticks themselves) frankincense, you will love this as it is the main base note the cologne is built upon.
