Sharp!
I have a Jeep JK, and as every jeep owner knows the two piece OEM lug nuts are trash. Eventually, they will go, and when they do you will be cussing. Five lug nuts across both front wheels had the chrome cover separate, and rounded off. I put a breaker bar with a nut extractor on them, and they broke off leaving the base. Nothing to do at that point but drill the studs out. I went to the big box store L***s, they had the Dewalt Elite cobalt drills, and I bought some to use for this job. They were great, but the store is way overpriced. These bits do not specifically say "Elite" but they are in all respects identical appearance wise. These bits claim to be cobalt, and they are, and they are also a great value for the money. No they didn't go through those studs like hot butter, no bit will, but they did leave 6 inch long spirals of the steel they were cutting. Sharp. They got a tough job done with a minimum of fuss. I used Tap Magic to keep them cool, and it did the trick. The bits stayed so cool I could touch them to the back of my hand when I removed them to add more Tap Magic. I also went slow, these bits didn't really like VERY slow, so I adjusted my speed as fast as they would cut, and stay cool. They have a sweet spot, you will have to find it. They only gripes I have are the smaller bits dont clean out well, so I had to periodically pull them from the stud and spin them fast to throw off the metal chips, usually when they stopped cutting because it was clogged. And if Dewalt has a .5 inch bit like these I couldn't find it. Get them if you need good bits for steel, you wont be disappointed.

Precision and Power
This drill bit set is a game-changer for anyone working with metal. Engineered for durability and precision, these bits feature high-quality construction that resists wear and delivers exceptional performance. Drilling through metal feels effortless—like cutting through butter—thanks to their sharp cutting edges. One standout feature is the larger bits, which come with an integrated pilot tip. This clever design eliminates the need to pre-drill smaller holes, saving you time and effort. The set is neatly housed in a sturdy, transparent case, making it easy to organize and identify the bits at a glance while keeping them secure and ready for use. This set combines innovation, convenience, and reliability.

Solid Bits That Get the Job Done
I like these DEWALT cobalt drill bits. Used with cutting fluid, they cut well and stay sharp. I was able to drill out a broken easy out made of hardened steel — not easy, but these bits handled it without burning up or chipping. I’ll definitely consider getting more of these if I need replacements.

Cuts metal for an amateur like me
I occasionally need to drill some holes in metal to make restoration parts for antiques. Like a custom bracket here, a hidden bracing piece there. Try it with regular drill bits, the kind that come with a drill or with a "1000 tools in a 10 inch box" kind of thing. Forget it, they turn to mush, they're not meant for metal even if they say so on them. I made some messes and started some cutting oil fires, that kind of thing. So I asked a friend who works on fancy doors what he does for all the holes he has to drill in things that are metal. So what I found out is use "Cobalt" (still contains steel) bits, press really hard, and put the drill on really low speed. I knew I didn't want to pay $$$ for whatever he uses in his pro work. He admitted his bits are so precious they come packed individually. How to do this but only occasionally? So having been very pleased with Dewalt stuff in the past (my hand drill and job site saw are from them for example), I decided that a small multi-pack from a reputable brand like this would be a good bet. It was. These drill through metal sheeting with my plain 15 year old Dewalt hand drill. We're talking like millimeters in my case. So I do not know what would happen if you tried it on a hunk of railroad rail or something like that. I drill things like an extra hole in things about as thick as a shelf bracket or less. Makes a clean round hole. Punch first, then push hard and drill slowly, right into some backing material like cheap pine scraps, and a few swipes with say 150 grit sandpaper to make sure there are no burrs and you're set. So for a relatively low price, I got the result I wanted. And it's real Dewalt, so you're not just punting, yet it costs about the same as random cheap sets on here. Importantly, the benefits of it occurred to an amateur like myself, who doesn't drill metal regularly but needs it to work when he needs it.

Drilled through 2 inches of a Grade 8 bolt like butter!
Recently, I bought a 99 Honda CR-V for $500 and had a lot of issues. Anyway, over the weekend, I was working on my car replacing all the suspension (ball joints, control arms, axles, tie rods, struts, etc.) and when I was nearly done, I had one screw to take off the rear lower control arm and it was the one that screws the lower ball joint onto the control. And guess what? It snapped with little to no pressure just to find out that the only thing keeping the bolt from coming was that it was rust welded onto the tack welded but on the other end! (I’m pretty glad I found that out now rather than later while I’m driving). I tried using all the drill bits I had at home and none of them worked. Even the screw extractor kit I bought Autozone didn’t even work, but with this one, it was magical. The fact that I didn’t have to punch the screw before hand was great because not of my punches would actually make an indentation on the darn bolt. But man, I put a bit of cutting oil and started drilling and man. I’ll tell you what. It was drilling through that screw like a hot knife going through butter. After drilling through two inches of Grade 8 bolt, it didn’t even seem to show any wear on the drill (besides metal flakes). This set is absolutely great and will last for years to come! Highly recommend these!
