How is this antibacterial?

The “chemical” people say it “leaks” is the same antibacterial ingredient found in mouthwash. It’s inside the little colored plastic part, in the form of a solid gel. I’ve never had it liquify but I suspect people who are reporting that have soaked it in water or something, which you shouldn’t do. My family of four have used Steripods for years. You know that funk a toothbrush gets after a couple of weeks? We don’t get that at all using Steripods. Our toothbrushes actually last three months like they’re supposed to.

Can the filters be replaced? Or do you have to buy a new steripod each time?
