Jock of the Bushveld is a story set in the rough Bushveld of South Africa's gold mining era. Jock is the faithful dog and companion of a transport rider. Through their adventures we catch a glimpse of those heady gold rush days. Jock, the runt of the litter turns out to be a faithful companion to the end. This is the original and unabridged version of this South African favourite lovingly restored from the 1907 edition. Review: I loved this book - I loved this book! It's a true story of an unusual dog, but , much more. Published in 1907, it tells of a different world of harshness and freedom- I learned a lot and was sorry when it ended. Review: As promised - Great book in excellent condition

This book is exceptionally well written. A tale of an exciting nonstop adventure. A true example of love, loyalty and devotion between a dog and his man. Definitely, worth the time to read.

Outstanding Read!
For anyone interested in Africa, as well as dogs, this old book is a must read! It's a wonderful gift to today's world that it has been reprinted! As a storyteller and writer myself, I appreciated it enormously.

Beautiful book
Wonderful book by easily readable author who gives a humble account of his life in the bush. I have read it a few times in my life and enjoy it each time. It appeals to children and adults just the same.

On my to do list
I read this book as a boy and loved it, but have not yet got around to reading it. We had a little foxy at the time of ordering this book but he got run over at the same time. Maybe when we get another mut we will read it

Disappointed
I opened this book hoping to read the true copy of this classic story not the โwokeโ version. Sanitising history doesnโt erase or change it. Disappointed publisher chose this path so didnโt get past the editors notes before my copy made the bin.

A true story and a wonderful tale of adventure.
This is a classic I wish more people knew about. Plucky Staffy pup, the runt of the litter, proves to be a loyal and indispensable companion to Sir Percy Fitzpatrick - a transport rider in Douth Africa in the days when ox wagons where the HGVs of the day. One of my all time favourite books and if youโre a dog lover, this will pull on all kinds of heartstrings.

Jock of the Bushveld - Ace!
Jock of the Bushveld is a terrific read. The narrative flows beautifully, and I am hooked - it's the story of growth and growing up - man and dog and although written so long ago, is so relevant today. It's a joy to read, taking us to a different time and place and sharing that with us. Quite out of the ordinary, it will reel you in I hope and expand horizons. Was recommended to me by my brother who used to live in South Africa. I've looked for it in print before, unsuccessfully - so was delighted to find it anew in print. Will get a couple more for presents before they're snapped up!

Good, but...
I bought this book to replace an old, hard cover, edition, which I had since a small child but which, along with many other valued books, had to be left behind when I left Zimbabwe. This is an excellent replacement with, it would appear, all of the old black and white, pen and ink illustrations, which never fail to delight. However, the reason I gave this book a four star rating, all but one of the full-page pictures have been omitted. These were an important and much loved part of the old 1950s edition and I was disappointed to find that they had been left out of this edition. Shame on you editors.
