Renowned martial artist Toshishiro Obata, uchi deshi (live in disciple) under the late Gozo Shioda, relocated from Japan to America in 1980 and began development of a research organization called the "Aikibujutsu Tanren Kenkyukai" or abbreviated as Aiki-buken. While Mr. Obata was uchi deshi in Japan, he also taught at the Yoshinkan honbu dojo, universities, the Metropolitan Riot Police and the Japanese self-defense army. Obata created the Aiki-buken to accurately rebuild concepts and techniques from the older styles of Aikibujutsu and Edo Torimonojutsu used during the feudal times of Japan. This is an ongoing process including the softer styles of modern Aikido. Review: I agree that it is one of the best - I found the video on Aikido Self Defense with Toshishiro Obata great. I also liked his Samurai Aikijujtsu video and book. It's hard to find this type information on video or books. Review: Aikido Self-Defense - Demonstrated - Aikido Self-Defense has good visuals but it is a demonstration type of presentation with very little verbal information. There are no intructions to help understand the details; But it is not promoted as an intructional presentation. For those who have a knowledge of Aikido vocabulary & form the demonstration may be useful. This may be helpful for me when I learn & know more about Martial Arts.
