There are only a few brands out there for any encaustic supplies and R&F is the best. This gesso for one..the price..I know.. you could scream but it is different from regular gesso for painting. A consolation is that it is long lasting..not sure why but it does go a long way. There is almost a sandy quality which you can feel when it is dry..I guess it helps the adhesion for the encaustic paint and medium to the wood. You wont find brand better or cheaper...go with the best

Came quickly and it’s as described:) what can I say R&F is the best encaustic supply brand you can purchase !

Expensive my as*!
Mix well 1/2 - 1 C powdered marble (4# @ 18.00 - Frederix) and1 qt gesso (1 gal @ 20.00 - Sargent). Initial cost same as 1 qt encaustic gesso. Now you have enough left over to make 3+ more quarts. Savings = over $120.00. Go figure.

When to use encaustic gesso
I am an encaustic painter. I use the combo of encaustic gesso to prepare wood panels when I want to work with just paint sticks, a combo of encaustic and oil paint. More flexibility!

Looks like it will do the job, a bit thinner then expected.

This is a more economical size.
Good amount of gesso in this quart size and much more economical than the smaller jars. And it does really work. Good product.
