Great resource to start, but badly needs a update.
As a textbook and a introduction to the world of transportation planning and policy, it is definatly a good resource to get started. I took a star off for the dry writing style of many of the chapters, which given its a textbook is somewhat expected. I took another star off for the fact it was published over ten years ago and still has not been updated with new trends in transportation, such as walk ability, complete streets, and the return to the city movement. For my class, we used this book every other week or so to provide a general background on transportation concepts and then had to utilize supplemental materials regarding current trends and problems in transportation. The publisher has stated numerous times that a updated version is on the way, and should be ready for Fall 2017 semesters. Yet, being published well over ten years ago, I would not hold out it's on the way.

Great
Great book for Community Planners, lots of people helped write each chapter so its the least politicly motivated book I have read for awhile.

Loved this book
Even if you don't have this class at school, this book was very informative, easily understood, and helped me make an "A" in Urban Transportation.

Informative, but boring
Assigned as a textbook. The book is pretty informative, and a good text for those with a limited background in transportation planning. However, it is mostly boring, and can be a very dense read at times. It also appears that some of the chapters have never been updated despite being the third edition, many use old data to come to questionable conclusions while making examples. Other chapters appear to be fully up to date and aware of the current conditions of things.
