I would suggest an XL and maybe the use of a little hat tape. A large is about 23" and an XL is about 23 7/8"

Does this hat have a Cool Max band?

I have 3 of these hats and all of them have a head band inside but im not sure what a cool max band is? Wish i could upload a pic for you to see inside for yourself.

What is the head size of a large

I can only say that I'm a 7 3/8 and XL is marginally too big. I'm guessing 7 3/8 would be snug in L and smaller head size would be comfortable. (XL is wearable for me, I put a bandana or headband on underneath for sweaty work.)
