60 Seconds and You're Hired!: Revised Edition

I’ve been in HR Recruiting for over 20 years. I have been on both sides of the interview process. I know that interviews are much trickier than people realize. It is especially hard for the person being interviewed because in the end the employer will only end up hiring one person not everyone they talk too. I have found that the person who carefully prepares for the interview process with knowledgeable advice is the one that usually does the best. The book "60 Seconds & You’re Hired" is one of the most useful and valuable guides out there. I have recommended it to many individuals to help them get prepared for job interviews. The author provides great responses to a number of interview questions. The book is easy to read and will help you personally develop your own "60 second sell". If you are preparing for an interview, get this book and read it before you meet the employer because landing the job depends on it!

I'm 45 and feel very young but I'm also realistic. I was pretty rusty at interviewing. I read this book, skimmed through some sections that were not applicable to my situation but delved deeply into those that were or close to it. Let me tell you, I developed answers to some questions and rehearsed in the mirror using my phone to watch myself. IT WORKED!! I went in feeling enthusiastic and confident (actually telling myself that over and over). The position was for a promotion in my office and was a panel interview with managers who I knew a little but had never worked with. Don't get me wrong, I know my job, I help my current lead alot so I went in having done my homework and feeling prepared. The interview went well but I was still nervous. I WAS PROMOTED!! MORE MONEY, MORE RESPONSIBILITY. My feedback was that my interview topped all the others. The Director later asked me if was given the questions in advance???!!!! I give myself the credit but this book really helped. At least two (maybe 3 I can't remember) the questions asked during the interview were variations of questions which I had already prepared for and rehearsed right out of this book! I recommend this book wholeheartedly. Buy the book. Go get that job!

I have used this book to prepare for a couple interviews that I knew were going to be difficult. The book gives a lot of practical questions and strategy for having a successful interview. When I say successful I mean being prepared and giving solid answers with examples based on your experience. I have yet to win a job while using this resource but I have gained more experience and insight into the interview process and have improved each time. Therefore, I can conclude that this book was worth the money and time invested in reading it.

Interviewing has never been my strong suit. I've never been the kind of person to have multiple offers on the table at one time so I could have my pick and the reason for that is, hands down, my interviewing skills (or relative lack thereof). Thankfully, I work in a very niche field with limited competition. I have lots of experience, so, theoretically, I'm probably an attractive candidate to many companies "on paper." Anytime I've wanted or needed a new job, I've always been able to get the interviews - it's getting the job that has been the giant hurdle. I'm in a position now where I will need a new job due to a pending relocation. I was lucky enough to have a few interviews a few months ago, but, ugh, I messed up both of them! I just know I said something "bad" that turned them off completely. The problem is, I didn't really know what I said that was so bad. Given the situation I am in, I knew I would need some kind of "help," and I'm extremely grateful to have stumbled upon this book. This may be the best, most useful $10 I have ever spent! I would buy it again and again if I had to. I was able to finally realize that some of the answers I had were really ridiculous. That infamous "where do you see yourself in 5 years question" has always thrown me for a loop, in particular. Now, I've got a brilliant answer to that question thanks to this book! I even feel like my job search is picking up steam, so there are more and more chances for me to secure that elusive offer. In fact, I might be close to getting an offer very soon! Even though my recent job search isn't done, I feel like I'm a whole lot closer, and I think I've got an excellent shot at getting an offer all because of this book. I'm not messing up my interviews anymore - YAY!

I bought this book a couple days before my interview and it was easy to read and digest. It didn’t have anything monumental to add or any frills but this was exactly what I needed- a straight to the point guide with no nonsense or hyped up exaggerations. This book could either be a refresher or for someone new to interviewIng. I, myself, have done a lot of interview prep reading on websites and watching YouTube videos but I feel this was really well put together and took the stress out of finding conflicting info online. AND I GOT the job (at a company I reapplied at even!!)

This book was worth a 10% sign on bonus to me, pretty amazing ROI! It’s got everything you need to reflect on what skills you bring to the table and how to ensure you stand out in an interview. I hadn’t needed to look for a job for over twenty years, and this book gave me the skills I needed to field multiple offers. Make the small investment if you find yourself looking for your next role.

Robin has written a well-rounded book on interview that can be read within a day. It might take a week to come up with solid responses based on example responses provided, but in general, this book is concise. Robin believes all responses must be complete within 60 seconds using one of 5 marketable skills you've predetermined. I like the idea, but wished she would have given a big list of skills/points to go off of. The book has many typical questions and what to respond with to said questions. One con is chapters are out of order. Chapters outlining pre-interview preparation come after the interview questions. I like 60 Seconds and You're Hired! quite a bit and will say it raised my interview skill. Wouldn't say it's the best, but certain it's good. At the end of the day, if it brings you to a higher level, it's worth a buy.

Some of this is just plain wrong. If you say that you're a "workaholic" when asked "what's your greatest weakness?" I know you're either a liar or you've got an ego the size of the Sun. People won't fall for that. There is some good bits to help you think about dodging questions correctly. The part about a 60 second pitch is good advice.

Good information if you are preparing for interview for first time. It helps.

Ein super geschriebesnes Buch! Alles was man zum Vorstellungsgespräch wissen muss ist drin. Die Autorin hat alles sehr kurz, prägnant und klever beschrieben und auch eine klare Strategie vorgestellt, die man beim Gestalten seiner Vorstellung verwenden kann. Ich bin super zufrieden!!

Really enjoyed this book, great tips and ideas to further develop responses and poignant. Found this very beneficial and not only for interviews

Was introduced to the older version of this book many years ago and continue to reference it. Bought the newer version to see the updates. Have also bought it as gifts for others as it's a great book for anyone looking for employment and excellent resource for even a new person entering the work force (students).
