Note from the publisher: Now in its sixth edition, this bestselling reference focuses on the basic materials and methods used in building construction. Emphasizing common construction systems such as light wood frame, masonry bearing wall, steel frame, and reinforced concrete construction, the new edition includes new information on building materials properties; the latest on "pre-engineered" building components and sustainability issues; and reflects the latest building codes and standards. It also features an expanded series of case studies along with more axonometric detail drawings and revised photographs for a thoroughly illustrated approach. Review: [Rented] Great price, usable information, came with CD - I mean the content format looks dated, but content is interesting. It's a required book for classes, but still came in great rent-able condition with the CD addition slipped in. A few half a page fold were on some pages and there was something sticky on two pages that I had to rip apart when I got it, but nothing too serious. Share it, kids. You'll get the same info for less, unless you like to have a physical book to flip through. Review: Prettyyyy good book - My credit ability stands where I have never wrote or felt the desire to write a review but this book deserved it. The book introduces material and application methods in a way that's perfect for a beginner and works great as a reference guide!

Great Book, Great Quality, Great Deal
Came just in the nick of time. Brand new! Good condition. The online access portion never really worked or made any sense? I am good with computers and never figured out how to access all of that.

Phenomenal Book for Construction Introduction
This book is absolutely great for both intro Construction/Engineer/Architects and seasoned veterans in the trades. It gives a very comprehensive view of every construction process imaginable. Extremely thorough, I was very surprised. Not very numbers oriented or specific, but is more of a broad overview type of book.

The building blocks of your education
This is also another must read if you are in the construction business or looking into getting into that field of study. I use this for my architecural engineering classes and my professor swears by it that it will be helpful to you even if you have years of experience.

This book is really good and in depth enough to give you a full understanding of construction from start to finish. It branches off into various structural and cladding systems. The 3D drawings/diagrams are very informative but wish there were more 2D drawings since this is how architects would normally represent such systems when being designed and ultimately built. This book should definitely be paired with Allen's other book, "Architectural Detailing" to get a more thorough understanding of construction. A few drawings from FBC reappear in "Architectural Detailing" but this understandable and necessary. Overall, this book contains a good mix of text and graphics and explains how and why things are done. The book is quite massive and takes patience and time and get through. I got lazy a few times and tried to skip some sections of the book but realized upon skimming that pretty much every page of this book is packed with important and concise information. The paper and print quality of the book is average at best but it's to be expected due to its breadth and cost (relatively cheap). I think it was a fair tradeoff. But I didn't know it was possible to make paper this thin. Underlining with a pencil shows up on the back of the page.
