what kind of card reader does it read?

It has a card reader that accepts chipped ID cards for access to secure online systems. I’m in the Army and it accepts my chipped common access card so I can be verified to access DOD sites.

Does the keyboard come with a palm rest?

Yes it comes with a palm rest I just don’t use it.
