XCEL Fence Metal Flange for 2" Square Post, Included Cover, and 4 PCS of 7/16" X 2-1/2" Anchor Bolts.

I recently installed an extension to a railing and needed to add a post at the end. The big box hardware store had posts in stock, but no flanges so I ordered this one. It fit perfectly with the post and feels plenty sturdy enough. I followed the advice from other reviews not to use the included anchors and to purchase better ones, so I can't speak to how those work. But the flange itself works and looked good once I installed the cover. I did have to cut down the anchor bolts a bit to get the cover to fit.

These dressed up our iron posts on porch railing. They cover cement bolts and were a nice finished touch.

The flanges were top quality with a great paint job to boot. I wish I could say that about the anchors sent with them. They were cheap and the steel bolts bend easily when pounding the anchor into the hole. ( If I did it over I would have spent the money for Hilti anchors.) When drilling the holes in cement, drill all your 7/16" holes first, then install a brand new bit in your drill and run it through each hole one more time so you get a truer to size 7/16" hole. The anchors are so tight fitting that ran a bevel with my bench grinder on the leading edge of the anchor so as to not grab the cement edges of the hole so easily.....That helped.

The media could not be loaded. This is a well made flange base for surface mounting 2 X 2 or 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 inch aluminum fence post. I liked that the post was designed to go over the flange. However. they do not fit inside a 2x2 commercial grade aluminum post. As you may see in the attached pictures, I had to cross cut the flange and pound the top side in. I was then able to force the flange inside the post with a rubber mallet. Like other buyers I then discovered that the provided anchor bolts didn't hold. I used the recommended 1/2 inch masonry bit but the anchor wouldn't bite. I spread the anchor sleeve with a screwdriver and tapped it into the hole. When I tightened the bolt it seemed to hold until I put a little pressure on the post then all the anchor bolt came loose.A 5/16ths Tapcon bolt seemed to work well but the best was a 3/8ths by 2 1/4 Red head Wedge anchor.The manufacturer should tapper the flange for an easier fit and include a much better anchor wedge.
