Four months of daily use and performed well and no signs of wear or tear. Great piece of kit, love the way it shows and easy to deploy, reroll and secure.

Finger spool is great size, not too large. I can easily use it as a finger spool one handed. The Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) is exactly as I hoped for. A large opening on the bottom to fill with an Octo, and a one-way valve in the bottom section doesn't let the air back out, so it will remain inflated at the surface and not lose air if it tips over. Valve to manually inflate by mouth or BCD hose works well. Press in, and inflate by mouth, let go and it springs back and stops air flow, locking it in. Dump valve works, though I haven't tested as a pressure relief yet. I intend to use soon in Hawaii and if I experience any issues, I will revise this review. So far, very pleased with this product and would purchase again.

I used this DSMB on a Caribbean dive trip, for eight dives. Works well and very easy and fast to inflate from octo. Could also be inflated from a LP inflator hose or by mouth. The addition of the relief valve does add bulk when rolled, but make deflating easy. Due to the design of the bottom, it does trap any water that gets inside, but the relief valve can be removed to drain it. The spool and line seem good quality, and the bolt snap is great but a little smaller than I'd prefer (but sized right for the spool). There's a swivel on the end of the line that could be removed if you want a different setup, but it is very nicely spliced and finished off if you choose to keep it.

The reel is pretty good overall, cord is good and the swivel snap is adequate. The SMB is average at best. I bought the package because I needed a good finger reel, so I rate that part highly. You can get a better SMB, but the package price is reasonable.

The loop on the end is too small to pass the spool through and hitch the line to the D ring. To attach the line you have to pass it through the D ring and then back down the SMB as follows: (1) Unpack the SMB and lay it flat. (1) Pass the end of the line, including the swivel and the small loop of cord through the D ring. (2) Pull the line through the D ring and up to the top of the SMB. (3) Open the small loop and and place it around the top of the SMB (may have to fold the SMB). (4) Work the loop back down to the SMB towards the D ring, pulling slack back through the D ring as you go. (5) Once you finish, the small loop should be girth hitched around the D ring.

This DSMB checks all the boxes for me. I see many dive guides use similar ones. The safety sausage is a good balance of good length (5 ft) and not excessive bulk, such that it can fit into my BCD pocket, or not be too obstrusive if dangling from a D-ring on the BCD. It can be inflated at depth with one's reg or octopus, and there is a valve for oral inflation if necessary. There is a purge valve for deflating. It comes with the double-ended snap to clip to the BCD as well as to keep the spool from unwinding. Lastly the safety sausage has a velcro strap to keep it wound, as well a bungee to keep sausage and the spool as one unit, and also to keep the spool from unwinding.

Used this many times for training. Always train with your SMB! Low pressure hose fill, reg fill, lung power, haven’t had a problem after 2 years of use. I never dive without it. 75+ dives with this unit.

Great DSMB, balloon is quality and the reel is easy to use and bright. However, after a few uses the black end of the line broke off while the SMB was deployed. Not a huge deal as I was able to recover the SMB at the surface. I ended up having to cut off the black end of the line and reattaching it to the SMB.

Die spool macht einen hochwertigen Eindruck und alles funktioniert einwandfrei. Die Boje hat eine gute Größe und mit den Metallplatten ist es perfekt. Der Karabiner könnte allerdings größer sein.

Die Verarbeitung der Boje sowie die verwendeten Materialien sind tadellos. Sie macht einen robusten und wertigen Eindruck, welcher sich auch während der ersten Einsätze bestätigte. Durch die verschiedenen Möglichkeiten der Befüllung (Aufpusten über das Ventil mit dem Mund, von unten mit dem Lungenautomat oder mittels Anschluss eines Inflatotschlauches) ist die Boje für alle Fälle gerüstet. Letzere Möglichkeit habe ich bisher nicht getestet. Die Boje hält die Luft und steht dank eingebautem Gewicht gut an der Oberfläche. Die Spule ist von sehr guter Qualität und erfüllt alle Erwartungen. Die mitgelieferte und bereits aufgerollte Leine ist sicher an der Spule verknotet und am Ende zur Boje mit einem Drehgelenk ausgestattet um ein verdrehen der Leine zu verhindern. Zudem sind alle Knoten mit Schrumpfschlauch vor Reibung geschützt. Warum nicht 5 Sterne ? Die Boje färbt nach den ersten Einsätzen ab. Helle, empfindliche Gegenstände sollten daher getrennt verstaut werden. Da die Boje zwar von unten befüllt werden kann, zum ablassen der Luft jedoch nur die Ventile verwendet werden können, muss die Boje vor dem Einzug in's Winterquartier unbedingt aufgeblasen hängend, über Wochen trocknen. Kondenswasser oder eingedrungenes Meerwasser würde sonst sicherlich zu Schimmelbildung, Stockflecken o.ä. führen wenn die Boje über längere Zeit verstaut wird. Kein Minuspunkt aber einen Hinweis wert: Durch die recht hoch aufbauenden Ventile lässt sich die Boje nicht ganz so kompakt rollen wie manche offene Variante. Gummiband und Klettverschluss halten sie aber gut und sicher. Am Karabiner gibt es nichts auszusetzen. Er erfüllt seinen Zweck, ist nicht zu schwer- und nicht zu leichtgängig, rostet nicht und sichert die Boje am Jacket wenn nicht in Gebrauch bzw. verhindert versehentliches Abspulen der Leine im Einsatz wenn man raus hat wie es funktioniert. Alles in allem, klare Kaufempfehlung wenn man kein Problem mit der langen Lieferzeit aus den USA hat.
