Tracer Deep Hole Construction Pencil with Site Holster (120mm, Extendable 2B Carpenter Pencil with Inbuilt Sharpener)

If you're anything like me, you can never find your pencil. I'm a serial DIYer, but spend most of my time pencil hunting. I swear I put it behind my ear... That was until I got my Tracer pencil. Gone are the days of vanishing pencils. It now sits proudly in one of the screwdriver loops of my work trousers. Simple to grab whenever I need it, and easy to remember to return it to it's holster. Apart from now knowing exactly where it is at all times, this is also a great pencil. It doesn't blunt too quickly, and is easy to quickly sharpen with the built in sharpener on the holster. It's not the cheapest, but I'd say you definitely get what you pay for. It's a well thought out design, and good quality. Just a word of warning, if you're using it to mark a deep hole, you need to be extra careful. The lead will be fully extracted, and although it's probably stronger than the average pencil lead, it is still brittle, and will snap with any lateral pressure. Overall, though, this is one of my favourite additions to my toolkit. It's simple and unsexy, but has saved me so much time now I don't have to play hide and seek with my pencil.

I don't know why I waited so long to buy a proper pencil for working on site. For such a low investment you'll have a pretty heavy duty and reliable pencil that will last a long time. The fit on the clip is great, built in sharpener means you don't need to sharpen with a knife anymore and the extra lead inculded will last a long time.

Needed a 'Deep Hole' Pencil for marking out fittings and bought this based on reviews. This items is great quality and works as described. An ideal and necessary addition to any DIY Toolbox. The Holder and Pencil both come with an integral pocket clip ensuring that the pencil is always available and secure. Highly recommended.

Absolutely brilliant 'tool' but doesn't come with any spare leads as advertised above. I couldn't get a refund or seem to find a way to contact Amazon about this.

These are by far the most superior pencils I’ve ever used at work. I’m a dry liner and they are perfect for the job easy to use and give a nice clear mark when needed.

This pencil is super useful and has become one of those tools I reach for without thinking. The build quality feels excellent and it sits very comfortably in the hand giving good control when marking my materials. The extendable design is particularly useful for deep holes and awkward angles making it far more versatile than a normal pencil. One feature I appreciate a lot is the strong pocket grip. Once clipped into a pocket it stays there securely rather than constantly sliding out when moving around or somehow getting lost as they usually do. It sounds like a small detail but on a busy job it makes a real difference knowing your pencil is exactly where you left it rather than lost somewhere random. Overall I genuinely cannot fault it. The integrated sharpener is a thoughtful addition as well the design feels durable and it performs exactly as it should. It is one of those simple but well thought out tools that makes everyday work easier and for that reason it easily earns five stars for me!

So since this one is the original deal the quality is pretty top notch. I'm a site carpenter and without coming over all fan boy this really had worked its way into my favours over the old knife sharpened pencils. For average use the 2B Lead marks on pretty much anything and there is an abundance of 3rd party spare leads so not had to buy the official refills. The big UP with the Tracer over 3rd party models is the little holster that it comes with, this sits nicely in your pocket and means when you return it your not fiddling around but have a nice open aperture to put it in and that keeps its space in your pocket available. Also seems to be lest wasteful, when I got down to the last 5-6cm of a traditional pencil I'd normally just chuck it so over all it might just be a very small difference but over time it all adds up right? Some people have mentioned the poor durability of the sharpener but so far mine has help together and for the majority of my work the 2.8mm unsharpened lead is just fine (in fact I only tend to sharpen it before doing the Metro crossword). Also when you pull it out you do feel like you've just drawn a covert wand and the temptation to say "expelliarmus" is pretty damn strong.

This pencil is really good, the sharpener on the pocket clip is a great feature, I also purchased the replacement leads.. it's been in regular use for a while now and I'm happy with both purchases.

First pencil of this kind that I have used that work i.e. The lead does not disappear into the pencil when you write with it. So far - have to ser what happens in the long run.
