IT works.
Here in southern Florida we have an annual problem during the summer with swarming ants. They swarm after a heavy rain and fall into the pool covering the surface. The pools' built in skimmer just can not handle the load. I have been searching for a solution for several years but could not find anything that I thought could help. I have even researched this product several times. I finally decided it might be worth a try and purchased it in early summer of 2025. To my surprise it is really working and has helped greatly in clearing the pool surface of these pesky little ants. My pool has a seperate vacuum port so it was a breeze to install. Once I adjusted the flow rate for proper suction I have not needed to readjust. Now just need to see how long it will last before needs replacement.

Did not work as reviewed by others
I found that the suction is not strong enough to clean the top of pool, it only provided air to enter suction line. If your pool is deeper than 8' it will not let your sweeper work, i noticed it stayed in place and i had to manually move the sweeper to get it going again. I found that the inner blue ring moves and came out entirely due to lack of not being permanently attached. None of the 3 settings were strong enough to pull debris from top of pool. The adapter that comes with it is tapered and allows for a loose connection between the original hose and adapter I had to purchase a stainless steel clamp to keep hose connected. The hose that comes with it is only about 1" in diameter which I found to be way to small. We read the installation instructions and to no end did this product work as reviewed by others who purchased it. I lent it out to a friend who has a smaller/shallower pool than me and stated the same thing, didn't work, no suction, quicker to skim top of pool with net than with this product. For me this purchase was a waste.

Awesome product!
Its a very simple and basic product but works so well. In combination with my barracuda vacuum my pool has never been cleaner. Other than heavy winds or right after mowing the yard I don't need to skim the pool by hand anymore! It is so nice to be able to just jump in for a few minutes after work rather than spend 10-15 min skimming first. Update 5yrs later June 2020 After 5 yrs I finally need to replace this item. The plastic T broke and the hose gave out, I’ve trimmed the hose multiple times over the last 5 yrs due to tears in the hose. I also had problems like others with the blue triangle things coming off, nothing a little superglue won’t solve. IMO nothing in fl sitting in water and direct sunlight for 12+hrs a day is going to last much more than a year without issues, it just is what it is. I still think this item is worth the money as it works pretty well for me but it is not going to last forever and will need some fixes to keep it going. I would like to see a replacement hose and the plastic T available for purchase separately. FYI my local pinch a penny sells this item for $70!

Simple, Well-Made, and Effective
This is a great device to provide strong, effective skimming of an inground swimming pool. I live in Southern Florida and in the Spring, after a strong rain, the surface of our backyard pool will be covered with thousands of small flying insects (gnats?). Almost all of them float on the surface, so they don't go through the floor drain. I can spend a good hour with the skim net, slowly walking back and forth scooping up these bugs, and even then there will be lots I missed. The pool skimmers built into the sides of the pool don't generate enough water movement to cause the floating bugs to enter the skimmer and get sucked into the filter. I reviewed available add-on skimmers and selected the SkimmerMotion as being the best candidate. It's a simple design and doesn't require modification to my pool or pump system. And the reviews led me to believe this might work for me. In addition, this product is labeled as Made in the USA, and that carries a lot of weight in my decision-making process. The device comes packed well, in a sturdy box that stood up to the USPS system. The floating head unit is well-made of thick durable plastic. The quality of the design and manufacturing is evident; it's a substantial unit that should hold up to years of use. A corrugated white plastic tube connects to the underside of the head unit. The tube has a T-joint at the other end which connects to your pool cleaning robot. I have a Pentair Kreepy Krawly Great White which has a socket for connecting the cleaning hose to the inlet inside the pool's skimmer housing; that socket has a suction adjustment that allows me to dial up or down the suction going to the Great White. I have connected the SkimmerMotion two different ways: 1) Following the SkimmerMotion instructions, I connected the T-joint to the Great White's hose and let the Great White pull the SkimmerMotion around the pool. That worked well, since I only had to adjust the socket inside the skimmer housing to get the proper distribution of suction between the Great White and the SkimmerMotion. Easily attached and easily adjusted. 2) To use the SkimmerMotion without the Great White, I stuck the T-joint directly into the socket inside the skimmer housing and plugged the open end of the T-joint with a golf ball. The SkimmerMotion was in the pool by itself and the suction adjustment is still available via the socket. In both configurations the SkimmerMotion worked exactly as advertised. The bugs get pulled in from several inches away, and go down the tube and on to the pool filter. I will be recommending this to my friends and neighbors. It does the job! The only reason for four stars rather than five is the price. Like most other swimming pool accessories, this costs more than it should.

It mostly works, but requires lots of attention due to poor design
This device works -- helps remove most of the bugs floating on the pool surface. I have mine attached directly to the suction line using an adapter because our pool service takes care of vacuuming. We've got a screened-in pool that gets covered in gnats after every heavy rainfall in South Florida. It takes a bit of time for the Skimmer Motion to suck up the bugs, but at least I don't have to skim every day. I've only had to skim once after installing this and that was to clear the pool surface right after a heavy rain so we could swim. This device has a major flaw, though. It sucks air -- a lot of it. So much that, in my system, the air gets sucked into the vacuum line and sits there until I remove the Skimmer Motion, allowing it to bubble back into the pool. Fortunately it doesn't make it to the pump (caveat below). If I don't allow the air to be released, sometimes several times per day (and definitely at the end of the day before the pump turns off), when the pump turns off the bubbles flow back through the Skimmer Motion, causing it to flop over and dump the leaf-catcher insert, which then has to be retrieved from the bottom of the pool. The insert also serves to limit the suction venturi "tornado" effect that allows air in, but it clearly does not work very well. The caveat about the air not reaching the pump -- if I fail to release the air from the suction line and get the Skimmer Motion back in the proper position with the insert at the end of the day, when the pump comes on the next morning the Skimmer Motion is sucking mostly air, which DOES reach the pump. That can kill your pump. Turn the vacuum valve down, you say? It's barely open. Close it any more and this thing would not do anything to remove the bugs. I give it three stars because after months of use, it mostly works, but it requires LOTS of babying -- 15 to 30 minutes maybe. For the amount it costs, I would have expected the maker to have put much more thought into the design to prevent this problem, which seems to be common based on the reviews.

This thing is fantastic !!!!
This thing works 100%. I live in SFLA and my pool is screened in and even so I still get a lot of debris and bugs floating on the surface of the pool. Specially in the summer after daily summer storms I have to spend 30 minutes sweeping the surface of the pool with a net to grab all the nats and noseems and small bugs that fly in and fall into the pool. After spending 10 minutes setting up and adjusting the suction on the vacuum line this thing start doing the cleanup. Within an hour 85% of the bugs and surface was clean. Left it running over night and the next morning my pool surface was 99% clean and clear of bug or debris. I installed it both ways as stated by other members. Connected and the end of my Baracuda G3 W03000 and at closer the connector where my vacuum line starts. I find it that it works better connected to the actual Baracuda as it covers more ground and it doesn't depend on the current of the water to take the debri to it. It moves all over the pool surface dragged by the vacuum on the floor. Some people complained of it being tangled but for me I have not had to touch it. The small tangle will resolve itself once it moves to a different area. Now I can finally say, lets go to the pool and just disconnect the equipment and just get in and enjoy !!!

Buy the Less Expensive One
I had the Original Motion Skimmer and used it for the last few summers and it really kept my pool clean. This is basically a floating skimmer basket. I have several trees around my pool and the Original captured a lot of leaves. There is a rubber O ring that you have to replace periodically but they are cheap and easy to find at the hardware store. One of the diverters on the top of the skimmer came off but I glued it back on with marine glue and it worked fine. The skimmer was getting old so I though I would replace it and saw that there was a new "upgraded" version. I donated the old skimmer and ordered the more expensive version thinking it would work even better than old style. Regret! The new more expensive version barely sucks in small particles even when I was directing them into the basket. Forget about bigger leaves. Most annoying is when the pump shuts off everything that has accumulated inside the basket floats back out into the pool and you have grab the pool net and catch it before it spreads back out into the pool. Debris does not seem to be able to float over the edge of the small insert to get into the basket so the pool does not get cleaned on the surface. The Original skimmer by design held all the waste inside of it's spiral design and the smaller pieces went into the filter pot were you could clean it out and dispose of it. Very disappointed in the newer more expensive version and am going to put it up for backup. I wish I would have returned it. It is doing such a bad job I am ordering the old version which really made a big difference in keeping all the leaves and junk particles cleaned out of my pool.

Yes, it works for dog hair
I got this thing mainly to help with the dog hair problem I have. My 2 large dogs shed more than a pack of 10 dogs should and they love hanging out in the backyard around the pool (luckily they don't have any interest in swimming). That means I have a constant layer of hair on the surface of the pool unless I skim it by hand 2x each day. Installing this device has changed that. It gets rid of about 85% of the hair with my pump running about 4 hours each day. It looks way better now on average thanks to this thing. My only gripe is how expensive this thing is. It's a completely passive device with no moving parts and is probably produced for a few dollars for each unit. The markup on it is ridiculous, but it is effective, so there's that at least. It's worked pretty well on the leaves dropped on windy days too. I'd recommend stretching out the hose it comes with in the sun for a few hours so it gets straight before installing though. It comes all coiled up and does not want to lose that memory at all and will entangle with the vacuum it's attached to.
