This is just the cutest thing! I got it for my 7 year old for christmas and we've enjoyed it every morning since. It hangs in the playroom and sends rainbows spinning all over the room. It's cool to see the inner workings of the gears and love how it's solar powered. This is such a great gift!

Works wonderfully. I live in Michigan and right now the sun is blazing and the rainbows are dancing. Even my cat loves to try to catch them.

We purchased one of these as a gift, and ended up getting two for ourselves. The gift was a big hit with one of our 4-year-old daughter's classmates, but our daughter showed little interest in hers. So, I ended up with both units in my office. Each individually creates a beautiful effect, but with two in action the effect is truly amazing. It almost feels like being underwater with little rainbow fish swimming all around. I imagine the double unit would also create a similar effect. While the suction cups are plenty strong when applied correctly to a clean surface, I've been careless in attaching them several times, and have been amazed at the multiple spills these units have endured. They have each fallen to the floor several times, and the only damage I can detect is to one of the units, which often requires a 'jump start'. Basically, I just have to turn the crystal to the left about a quarter turn to give it the initial momentum, and then it seems to run fine on its own, at least until the sun moves off the panel. Since the sun is the light source for the crystal, the panels do not store a charge, but rather activate upon contact with direct sunlight, then shut down in its absence. Happily, they are very easy to move, so it's possible to 'chase' the sun across various positions on one window, or even between different windows, depending on the time of day and year. Only problem is, now that I'm hooked on my two, our daughter is suddenly showing interest in them as well. So, we're back to buy another unit or two for her and her sister's room. We're looking at the model with chimes too, since we know how great these are, and want to try other models. Originally, I thought these were a bit pricey, but after seeing the quality of both the construction and the effect, I now consider them to be a great value. Would definitely recommend.

Great little device while it's working. I have had one for many years, but came in the other day and found it making a strange noise and not turning. Seems one of the little gears split and stopped it from turning. Currently it costs too much so I can justify replacing it, knowing it will eventually fail because of the plastic gears. The little gears on the shafts are pressed on and that causes a lot of pressure on the gear which will eventually lead to it splitting. Being warmed by the sun probably doesn't help..

This was a replacement unit for one that broke after many years of valued service. The magical refractions and reflections of the sun powered crystal is a never ending joy you just can’t take for granted.

Very disappointing and outrageously priced at $40.00. I bought it as a gift for someone who REALLY wanted it or else it would be returned. I suspect the one I ordered is defective. In direct sun it barely moves. My sister has to move it around the sill until the sun hits the solar cell at a very specific angle. It will spin for a few minutes then stop. Spinning isn't really the movement, it rotates and the rotation is slow, clunky, and choppy. The plastic gears make a loud ticking sound like a clock with an odd tempo. Sometimes it stops rotating and you hear the gears clicking like it is trying to move but is stuck, if you tap it, it starts to rotate again, With just a minor shift in the angle of the sun, it stops. Sun is still streaming through the window but this device does not work. I have some solar moving items from a dollar store that bop away with just the tiniest bits of sun, and will continue to do so until dusk, yet this expensive item with a patent STILL pending requires a very specific angle and strength of sun to move like a poor quality clock mechanism. Based on the many five star reviews, either I got a dud, or the quality of this item has decreased in time despite the high price and no longer works like older versions that were rated highly. I gave it two stars instead of one because when it moves, the spinning rainbows are a joy to behold. I included a video with my review. Turn up the volume to hear the clicking/ticking noise it makes when rotating.

So far I have bought 4 in total. Everybody loves them, every time the sun comes out the kitchen fills with rainbows. What is not to like !!
