Careful which you order re: 120V vs. 240V
In the US, most people are going to want the 120V. The headings have been changed but when you go to order, they have several selections. I ordered the 240V and had to send it back, insured. I called Wisconsin Foundry and they sent me a spec sheet. All of the items listed as 6.88 amps or 4.38 amps are 240V (i.e. you probably don't want these in the US). I am reordering. This is a fairly simple set up. You pour distilled water into the bottom, then place a sterilizing rack on top. It's simple but appears functional and sturdy. It is probably a good idea to get the optional support base (item 2180) unless you are going to put it on a stainless steel or similar counter top. You have to turn it off by hand. I'm going to get this to start out with a few small surgical instruments. My previous autoclave broke and they are notoriously unreliable and expensive. My thought it, this might be enough for us. If we find that we need an autoclave, we can always get one and use this as a backup.

I was disappointed with the performance
I was disappointed with the performance. For such a small sterilizer I expected it to heat up faster. Be extra careful when seating the cover as it easily becomes skewed and uneven. It was very dirty as if it had been on display and only boxed up recently.

Great hint!
I have this sterilizer and I use it all the time for my small medical business. I have learned that silicone window sealant spread on the contact surfaces of the lid to the sterilizer base works fantastically to replace the recommended high temperature grease. I used the grease for many sterilization cycles and got more and more discouraged. The replacement that was recommended was Vaseline. I could barely get the pressure up. I would have melted Vaseline blowing out the seal everywhere. I called the company and asked about a rubber gasket. They do not make one. My feeling was that that would have been perfect. In desperation I chose some silicone window sealant. For several cycles I would apply it before the sterilization cycle, close the sterilizer, and tighten all of the knobs, and then scrape it all off after that I had completed a cycle. Then one day out of laziness I noticed when I opened the sterilizer that there was about an equal amount of the sealant still on each side, the lid and the base, and I just left it there. That was about 25 sterilization cycles ago, and it has never leaked since. It comes to a full pressure more quickly than it ever did before, it doesn't blow any hot liquid or gas out of the seal, and it works perfectly. I would publish this hint at the company's website but the only way to comment to them is to send them a letter! :) Hello 1970!
