JT833H 10-Amp 8-Inch Spiral Benchtop Jointer with Extendable Table

This Cutech Jointer is a great reminder that there is a real difference in engineering and manufacturing quality between items coming from Taiwan and those from mainland China. This is a not a knock off or clone of something else, but rather the original that others re-badge. It arrives very well packaged, a good thing as it weighs in at around 100 lbs. Engineered card edge boards surround custom fit foam to keep everything well protected. The documentation is in decent English and easy to follow. Opening the plastic bag surrounding the jointer will have you reaching for shop cloths, as the entire unit is liberally protected with machine oil to guard against rust. Keep track of the fence enhancement pieces and the fence rails as you unbox things. It's well designed and assembled: there are no sharp or exposed edges to the metal work, the cast iron tables are perfectly machined, and the powder coat/paint is perfect. There's not a lot to assembly, just attaching the sliding fence rails and the fence itself. I bought the cast iron fence and so didn't install the supplied fence. The fence support enhancements are simple enough to install, and reflect a manufacturer who listens to customer feedback and acts upon it - earlier models did not have these additional supports and the fence stability was questioned a little because of it. Once assembled the fence was at a perfect 90 to the bed right from the box, no adjustment needed. I ran a 2x6 through both on edge and on it's face, the jointer is quieter than my dust collection and the finish perfectly smooth. Depth of cut adjustment is very straightforward, and locks confidently in place. Early days yet, but first impressions are overwhelmingly positive. I'd gladly buy Cutech again.

I have limited space, so finding a benchtop jointer was my only real option. Pricing is also one extreme to another. Either you'll pay $300-$500 or over $1000. After reading all the reviews concerning the fence I was skeptical, but based on my experience with WEN I figured it was a worthwhile shot. So far I'm extremely happy with the jointer. The fence was almost perfectly square out of the box, although the table needed some adjustment. Once it was dialed in, every board coming off the jointer has been perfectly square. The fence is solid, and doesn't move. You really shouldn't be putting a lot of pressure against it anyway, because the face you place on it should be perfectly flat and smooth. The jointer is quiet and cuts well, dust collection is damn near perfect. I wouldn't recommend planing more than 1/32" at a time though. If you're on the fence, go for it. WEN is great in the space of affordable, rugged tools. I've resawn 8/4 white oak on my WEN bandsaw and it took it and kept going. Solid company, solid tools.

Youd be hard pressed to find another 8" jointer for under $500. There might be 1 or 2, but they are nearly the duplicate as this one (including the Rikon 8" thats near $200 more). It works well enough for a hobbyist woodworker. But dont expect perfection. First off, the fence is trash. Mine wasnt flat (it was slightly concave), and the mounting and adjustments arent conducive to accuracy. I was able to get it really close to perfectly square, which is good enough for my needs, but its not 100% square to where you get no light under a square. The motor isnt especially powerful so dont expect to take deep cuts of hardwoods as fast as you can push it. Face cutting any more than 1/32" requires pushing the piece through slowly, even in softer woods. I keep it set down to 1/64" and do multiple passes to flatten and square boards up. This works well. The cutter bits that come on the cutting head arent that good. They are HSS instead of carbide, and a few of the bits dinged and dulled after just a20 or so passes on various workpieces. Do yourself a favor and get a decent set of carbide bits (The stock bits are 14.25mm but 14.3mm bits work fine and are easier to find). If you are low on space/money and just want to square things up and dont mind doing multiple passes, this will do you well. If you need to take deep cuts in hardwoods or need exceptional accuracy, save your money and get a higher end floor model. This is a good bargain for a home woodworker or weekend warrior, anything more and you might be disappointed.

It wasn't even close to being properly aligned and adjusted when it arrived, so it took me a couple of hours to get it really well aligned, but it works surprisingly well and can make boards extremely smooth and straight after you get the machine properly adjusted. The fence is a bit flimsy, so I wouldn't recommend relying on the fence to give you a perfect 90.0 degree angle on the side of a board, but that can be achieved on a table saw instead. For how inexpensive this machine was, I'm very surprised how powerful it is, how smooth it cuts, and how strong and durable it seems (except for the fence).

Great machine! It does what’s suppose todo on resurfacing wood and truing edges. It does have to be mounted to a bench or table with Lag bolts. Quiet running machine. Haven’t had change the the inserts yet. I take lite cuts to clean up the surface of the wood. It is a sample design using aluminum for the table. It weighs is a little on lite side. But power of the motor is more than sufficient to gets good finish on about any wood. The push paddles that come with the machine are needed to operate your joi tee safely. Use them if you want to keep all your fingers. The paddles are needed to push the wood across the table without endangering your hands or fingers.

Works very well. The helix carbide tips cut like butter.

so first off, when properly aligned this tool works well. it makes clean cuts. but when you buy this tool you need to understand you did not buy the best of the best. 1) the fence: it's wimpy. it isn't long enough. it has to be adjusted every time you use it and the set screws for the set angles aren't worth anything. my fence has a bow in it. luckily, i suppose, since it is so short and useless i would have to try and joint something pretty short to have it not touch the bottom and top of the fence. silver linings.... 2) the surfaces: this is where it's really obvious you bought a low-mid tier tool. the surfaces, on this FLAT MAKING TOOL, are not flat themselves. my infeed table is slightly bowed, my outfeed table is slightly cupped or slants down, depending on how you look at it. the reslt is i can do so-so at making PERFECT faces and edges but it takes time and a lot of adjustments every single time you use it. the adjustments for the tables are infuriating. the likelyhood that you will get it perfect is non-existent. the surfaces are rough/unfinished/swirl-marky so things don't slide as great. i used car wax on my surfaces so they are very slick now. the instructions say to adjust the table so the blade BARELY touches the piece of wood. if you follow that precisely you will have the wood rubbing against the rough incline of the outfeed table and it will be like running sandpaper on top of sandpaper. you need to go slightly more than that to get it to feed right and then you will always think you are taking off too much (and you probably are). also they are ALUMINUM not cast or anything of the sort. 3) adjustments: i touched on the adjustments for the tables. the 4 screw approach is not ideal and it takes forever. you should also know that every time you adjust the depth of cut you will have to adjust the tables. and one thing to consider about this is that every time you adjust the table you have to adjust EVERYTHING. it affects how it interacts with the blade, how co-planer it is with the outfeed table, and how square it is with the fence and also the support arms. that brings up a point that not even the manual covers: YOU HAVE TO ADJUST THE SUPPORT ARMS! THIS ISN'T IN THE MANUAL! on the end bars there are allen screws in the bottom that locks them in place and there are allen screws on the side that twist and adjust the height of the bars. if you do not adjust these as well all your HOURS of alignment for the tables and the blade won't matter because the support arms will be lifting your piece up or dropping it down. also, you have to adjust those for every different length you put them at because they angle up differently depending on where you tighten it. 4) a vacuum is required. you cannot get away with just leaving the port open. i thought to test it it would be ok to leave it open to amke a mess to try one board. NOPE! the shavings built up and started gettign stuck throughout the blade and the wood started to take on little lumps/dents where the shavings interfered with the cuts. YOU NEED A VACUUM HOOKED UP. 5) other stuff. the noise is fine, as expected. the only way to carry it is by the tables which might be part of the reason they always seem to be going out of position. again, it makes really clean cuts. i think it's pretty. i hope this helps update: i contacted their customer support in the only way possible (via webform) and i got the automated response and nothing else. they said they would get back to me after 5 days. it's been 25. if you want good customer service this isn't the company to buy from

I bought this jointer a few years ago. I used to true up my stock by hand (winding sticks, scrub plane/jointer plane/smoothing plane). Larger projects got to be tiring. I needed a compact jointer that I could fix to a mobile cart for my small shop. I wanted the jointer to accommodate 8” stock, and I didn’t want to spend a fortune. I took a chance on the Wen and although it feels and looks unserious, it performs beautifully. I got the fence perfectly 90° to the table and it has stayed true the entire time of pretty regular use in the evenings and on weekends. I’ve replaced the blades once upgrading from the stock hss blades to carbide. I’ve probably processed 2000 bdft blades with this machine, mostly cherry, maple and white oak. For the price it has exceeded my expectations. The shortfalls that can’t be blamed considering the price point are the plastic knobs, the wonky table height mechanism that works fine but feels cheap, and the extension in and outfeed supports that work adequately but do a B- job of work support. All in all however this is a five star product for delivering reliable functionality for an inexpensive machine. I’d say this was one of the most unexpectedly positive purchases I’ve made. I highly recommend this jointer.

Hasta ahora ha trabajado muy bien, siento que los dientes se maltratan rápido con maderas duras, pero en teoría se pueden girar para usar el filo de los otros tres lados, no lo he hecho, no ha Sido necesario aún. Las extensiones ayudan bastante para la manipulación de piezas grandes como tablas completas de 2.5m, pero ojo, son auxiliares, no coinciden exactamente con el nivel de la mesa. Elegí está opción, a pesar de que había otras opciones el el mercado a precios similar de 6" estacionarias, por su tamaño, la tengo en una mesa con rodajas para poderla mover. Es muy práctica. Sin embargo para un taller más grande no la recomiendo tanto, solo como herramienta auxiliar y para llevarla a instalaciones fuera del taller.

Product came well packed and felt very solid. unfortunately when ordering i did not realize it was 110v and i require 240v so i had to send it back. hope there is a 240v version.

llego en doble caja muy buen protegida. es de aluminio y sus barras laterales son de adorno, no están alineadas y no tiene ajuste. trabaja con menos ruido pero la madera la tienes que pasar lento, muy lento
