It takes some practice to get any of these to work well, but this one is pretty good. Getting good at using these things can take a little while, so you should probably keep that in mind with the reviews. You have to make sure to line up exactly with the scoring on the tablet, or it might not cut straight through and/or you might get a little crushing (although that might be different on bigger pills). The first pill splitter I bought was rubberized in the cutting area. I was a little worried about this not having that, but the fact that this one tilts that area down, and is a smooth plastic surface, actually makes it a little easier to get the pill into position. Once you have it in position, it seems to stay there better with this one than my last, making this one easier to use. This one also has a support piece that runs straight down the middle, which you can see, and that makes it easier to align the pill scoring so it cuts right. Construction quality feels good, and it seems pretty well engineered. I like it better than my last. The downside is that the blade is exposed, with no sliding safety shield, so don't try something silly like keeping your fingers in there while cutting, and keep it away from kids. The blade is not as sharp as a real razor blade, but it seems to be sharp enough for the pills that I've tried. That does add some safety, since it won't cut you if you accidentally brush it. I don't know that there would be any real benefit to it being sharper.' I've only used the one other pill splitter, so I don't have a lot to compare it to, but I feel that this was a good buy. I do like it better than the last.

This is what I would consider an average pill cutter. It does what it is designed and advertised to do. It works pretty much as advertised. I think that one must consider both the size and the type of pill being cut. I have one pill that is round and chalky in nature and about 3/8th of an inch in diameter. Cutting them is about a 60 percent chance of doing the job right. The pills tend to break apart and sometimes into many bits along with generating a lot of powder. I am sure that any pill cutter is going to be challenged with this medication. Over all, I am satisfied with the pill cutter. Adding the pill holder to the package is a nice touch. These are being sold at this time for about $5 at my local pharmacy. I purchased several for travel purposes. So I am able to make good use of this pill "box" also. Depending on how many pills you are going to be cutting and the hardness of those pills, I see the blade being the weak point of this cutter. So far, my blade is doing the job. However, I expect as the blade becomes dull, the splitting of the pills will be more difficult. I suppose you replace the pill cutter rather than the blade when that happens. I don't know how you would replace the blade and I definitely have not seen an offer for spare blades. As a result, this pill cutter will have a somewhat limited life.

I like the precision with which this pill cutter works. However, it is a little tricky to make sure that the pill remains steadily in place. The interface is slick plastic so the pill being cut can easily slip away from the blade leading to a erroneous cut This pill cutter is well made. (for the most part!). The worst thing about this pill cutter is the removable bottom to store cut pills. The problem is that this re-movable partition often times will just fall OFF the pill cutter! Not good if you have pills stored there! This needs to be rectified with a snap open hinge-plate or some thing similar. Also, perhaps apply a rubber surface or other material, in the v-shaped cutting area that would grip pills more firmly, to prevent them from slipping left or right..

My partner has really bad tremors and he absolutely loves this pill cutter. A knife was becoming dangerous for him to use.

I had hoped that the design of this cutter would make it easier to cut tablets exactly in half but this is a complete disappointment. The blade is extremely sharp but not at all precise. Repeated attempts just ruined more tablets for me and as anyone can tell, medicines are expensive. To my utter shock, the item is not returnable and Amazon CS has not called me back even after I raised two requests. The seller has also not included the keychain pillbox in the package. Extremely disappointed on all counts 🙁

Great little handy to tool to split tablets. Blade is sharp and if done correctly gives a clean cut.
