Very solid webcam for an affordable price
Definitely a great buy. I've never owned an HD webcam prior to this, always having some cheap webcams that I find in the closet honestly. I would have purchased a better webcam sooner, since everything else electronic in my house is pretty much current technology, however, I have never really needed one since I have always used my Xoom tablet for video calls anyways. Though after seeing how inexpensive these HD webcams are, I decided might as well pick one up. While the shipping time was kind of strange, I didn't mind as I certainly wasn't in a hurry to get this. My first impression when I got this, was that the webcam is rather smaller and more discreet than I thought it would be. It sits snug on top of my monitor, as opposed to some which sometimes falls off when the computer desk gets shaken. Once I turned it on, the video quality was great. Of course compared to all the crappy and old webcams I used in the past, it really isn't too hard to have better quality than those. However, when comparing the video quality to those of my family and friends who I video chat all the time with in Skype, they all comment that I have the clearest and sharpest video. Of course there are other factors involved such as connection speeds, however, I think we all have comparable internet connections and we all live pretty close to each other. Many of the other webcams that are used in our video group calls are 2 or 3 times more expensive than a new C310, so definitely per dollar value this seems to be up there. I personally do not use the mic on the webcam, however, from just the tests I did, it seems good enough for use, definitely don't need to buy a separate mic. The webcam software is OK, however, it seems pretty buggy. Personally, I don't really deal with the webcam program, I don't see a point for it, however, I did leave it installed on my computer just in case. Either way, your computer should install it automatically and download the proper drivers, so if you don't care for the webcam application, you don't need the CD. Overall, a very good buy. Very affordable, good quality, and Logitech makes great products, never had a complaint about them.

Great camera, great value
I bought this camera so that I could communicate with my boyfriend while he is overseas. We tested it out using skype before he left and it worked so well I bought another one for him to take. The connection stays very clear and the audio is smooth. My computer is not that new so it wasn't able to use the video effects, but it still runs very great. My boyfriends computer was able to install the effects and those make for a fun thing to play with. It was easy to set up, only took about 5 minutes before I was all done and ready to use it. The image is so clear! Even if the image is not zoomed in so that the other person's face is taking up most of the screen, you can still see a great amount of detail. The sound is great too, even if you keep your computer volume lower like me, it is like you are on the phone or in person because everything is crisp. I am VERY happy with my purchase.

Good quality but can't auto focus close objects. Read my tip to resolve.
Bought this refurbished from Amazon warehouse. Looks good as new and works pretty well. The picture quality is good as well as the microphone. Setup was a breeze and running this is simple, as well. Even my 3 year old knows how to click on the icon to get the camera running. Update: this camera has a macro auto focusing problem when you want to record something up close. For example, if you're recording yourself at about a foot or 2 away (arms distance), your image is clear, but if you hold something up to the camera, the image will be blurry because it doesn't auto focus. What you'll need to do is pop open the camera cover, remove the 3 tiny screws with a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the 2nd camera cover to expose the lens. You'll see the lens has a circular cover that has ridges or a dial, if you will. Point the camera to a close object and slowly turn that dial either clockwise or counter clockwise until the image is focused. I believe it was clockwise to zoom closer. Don't focus too clearly because your images that are at arms distance or further will be blurry. You need to create a balance between close objects and arms distanced objects. Now hold your camera at the usual distance and refocus the camera until you get a balance. When you find a balance, replace the 2 covers and screws I rely heavily on honest helpful reviews when I shop and I want to help others make an informed decision as well. If you think my review is helpful, please comment or click “yes” below.

Surprisingly good!
I bought this for its microphone, mainly. I use a desktop computer for gaming, and I wanted a cheap microphone to use for in-game communication, but I also wanted a mic that sounded good enough for Let's Plays. This would also mean I would like decent video from it. This microphone is fantastic! I turned off the audio reduction feature for a more natural sound, and the result is a very rich audio feed that sounds properly balanced and clear even through my Audio Technica M50 studio monitors. In sufficient lighting, the video is actually quite good. I'd say it's a tad less grainy than a smartphone's video, although there is some artificial smoothing (which can probably be disabled in the software). The framerate could be smoother, but it's more than sufficient for video chatting or Let's Play-like stuff. My only grievance is with the stand: it doesn't quite fit on my monitor. Because the webcam is front heavy, it needed to be propped on its back, but the stand was not quite deep enough for my monitor (an Acer IPS-LED screen which is quite thin for a monitor). I just rolled up a note card and stationed it in the mount to help it stand. Included software is pretty good, although I run most of my effects in OBS or Premiere Pro instead of the Logitech software. My installation was nothing more than mounting it on the monitor (with the note card, as previously mentioned) and plugging it into the USB port. Overall, I highly recommend this webcam; it's a steal at this price.

Bought one for my brother; his videos were so clear, I bought one for myself!
Love this camera, I'm rating it 5 stars based on what you get for the price. I bought this webcam for my brother's family back in 2010 so we could use Skype to do video calls. The quality of the picture was beyond any I've seen from others using webcams (tremendous clarity - feels like the other person is in the same room), and the built-in microphone worked very well, too. I would imagine the top-end version in this line from Logitech is that much better, but for normal everyday use, this is a superb value. I was so impressed that I decided to purchase one for my home as well (had previously been using webcams built into laptop and iPhone for video conferencing). We put this one on a desktop and it has become the product we use 90%+ of the time. Using this webcam in the same room (and with the same light settings / camera position) that we have other webcams, I'm even more impressed by how well this one adjusts the white balance and corrects for imperfect lighting. What previously looked like a dark and orange-y room now looks on camera how it does in person - "daylight" white and perfectly exposed. I had a few challenges getting it set up correctly (detailed below) and nearly sent it back, but after reinstalling drivers from the Logitech site and double / triple-checking the settings on the video conferencing service I was using (Skype), they seem to have all stabilized. All around, I'm still impressed with this product and would recommend it to anyone needing to buy a webcam. Caveats: -There is a feature you can turn on in which the camera automatically tracks/follows your face (e.g. if you're moving around). I found this made the video fairly choppy, but for all I know, that could have been due to any number of factors (computer graphics card, web conferencing service, internet speed, etc). This isn't a critical feature for me any way, so I didn't take off any stars. -When I set this up on my own computer, I had a few false starts - I noticed my computer was hanging a lot more than normal, especially when trying to use the webcam or its software. After rebooting a couple of times, and finally reinstalling the software (using the normal install instead of custom, which I had done the first time, and using the file downloaded from the Logitech site instead of the CD that was included), it seems to have stabilized. Therefore, again, no reduction in stars, since it was a fixable issue for me. -I also noticed some issues with the camera working correctly the first few times I used it in Skype (no video and/or no sound). I had to go into the settings in Skype to manually change what source it used for both the cam and the microphone, in order for it to work. Apparently these reset when you download a Skype update (at least that is what appears to have happened with me), so I had to go back and reconfigure the settings when the most recent Skype update rolled out. Since this is likely more a Skype issue than a Logitech one, I'm not reducing stars. (Note: I bought this in Dec 2010 and in July 2011, both times from Amazon at $28.99. I see the price has increased, so am not sure how this compares to others at the higher price point.)

Cheap And Works Well...But HD???
I've had this webcam for several months and overall it works well. It is easy to set up and use. The software is well done and does not try to take over your entire processor when it is running. Of course it is a bit processor intensive if you are capturing at its highest resolution of video. This even holds true if it is only monitoring and not saving the video to hard drive. The motion sensor is great and will even work perfectly while shooting through glass, such as a window. It has an adjustment setting that allows you to compensate for normal motions that you would most likely not want to capture, such as the wind blowing leaves, etc. That comes in very handy if you are shooting outside. It does get quite blurry at any kind of distance. The good looking real clear picture limit is at a distance of about 10 feet or less. It has a zoom feature so you can easily zoom in and out. The zoom is not optical, it is digital, so don't expect perfect picture while zooming. You can even pan sightly one way or the other without moving the actual camera. It will follow your face if you set it to do so and it does a good job of keeping up as long as you are not running around or intentionally trying to get away from it. The picture quality is very good as far as webcams go, even at full screen. It is definitely not one of those webcams where the movement and motion are so jerky that they are annoying to watch. The movement is for the most part very fluid and lifelike. The color is extremely good and true to life. It also does an excellent job adjusting to different lighting conditions. I'm not too sure I would call it HD however. Maybe a low resolution HD? It is definitely not going to give you that awe that a lot of HD picture does. This is where the 3 star rating comes in. As a general webcam I would rate it at 5 stars, as high definition it definitely loses 2 stars from me. If you are looking for the eye popping HD, you best look to a higher end model. There are several made by this same manufacturer. If you are looking for a really good and cheap webcam, I don't think you will go wrong with this one. I would definitely buy it again. But please don't call this HD!

Works fine on a Mac
Just got this in yesterday and plugged it up to my Mac Pro (dual quad - OSX 10.6.6). I bought it primarily to use for Delicous Library 2 so I was eager to try it out in that app but decided to test it first. I wanted to see for one thing if the audio worked ok or not. I don't really think I will use it for audio since direct mics (such as a headset, etc.) provide better quality than an ambient room mic. But I was curious never-the-less. I fired up QuickTime Player, File->New Movie Recording and wham. I was staring at my old mug. Nice sharp, clear pic. Color is vibrant. A smidge of lag from the camera (not bad really) but still sufficient for me. Clicked record and played it back. Oops. No audio. So, I launched Audio MIDI Settings via System Preferences and saw that the mic wasn't enabled by default which makes sense. So I right clicked and selected "Use this device for Sound Input". Back to QuickTime and boom. Works great. My sample rate was set by default to 48k, 1 channel and 16bit. I then went to Garageband (since someone claimed it didn't work there) and the mic worked fine. Once again it's only an ambient mic but worked well enough in the app. Next I went to Delicious Library 2. You can use the camera there as a barcode scanner (neat trick). After finding the button in Delicious to turn on the camera and bringing up the new item dialog box I held a DVD up to the camera and BEEP...we have a DVD scanned. Sweet! Bottom line: this little camera is a great deal at $30 and works fine on my Mac. I have no idea why others are not so lucky. I was surprised at how well it worked actually. I also would like to thank the merchant "iDealsLava" (heh, what a name) who shipped this to me in pronto time without a hitch. Man, Amazon rocks doesn't it?

Great webcam for the price if it would just stay put!
I lost my good webcam when I moved my office and needed something for Skype and general stuff, nothing that needed super duper quality. I was about to spend a lot of money on a much more advanced Logitech webcam but decided I just didn't needed to. I chose this one because it mentioned that it was good in low light. My whole house is like a dungeon and is rarely very well lit and I have had issues with my laptop and tablet's built in webcams capturing a decent picture or video due to that. This webcam really has no bells and whistles. I plugged it in and it was ready to go. I think I downloaded some updated software from their site but it was quick and painless. The one really weird thing about it is the way it clips onto the screen. Or should I say, the way it DOESN'T clip on. It sort of just hangs there and falls off the screen constantly. There is no way to tighten it or clip it. It is just set on the screen. This does help me to adjust the lens but it doesn't stay adjusted because, again, there is nothing to clip it to make it secure. Aside from that though. this webcam works fine. The microphone is great and the pictures and video even in low light are good. People on the other end of Skype tell me they see me clearly with no distortion and any videos I have made look bright and the colors seem true. The photos are a tad bit brainy when the light is low but they're very clear when there is sufficient light. There is no manual focusing or zooming. The webcam has an auto focus feature that you can set to follow your face or not. I have mine set to that and it does a good job tracking me. It sometimes zooms in and out for no reason but it's not a big issue. It is trying to track me I guess and I do move around quite a bit. My last webcam had some fun features like silly props, backgrounds, the ability to put up a privacy screen when you pause the video, and more. I miss those things but they really aren't necessary, just fun. I would love to find a site that gives me some fun options to download, particularly a screen behind me as my old webcam did but I can live without it. In all, for a low price, I got a more than decent webcam. I use it to talk to friends and relatives on Skype, snap quick photos, and make random videos now and then. I can easily pick up the webcam and point it to whatever I want which is fun. I can set it on my desk or on the computer monitor or even on my CPU depending on the way I want the video or picture. For the low price, I am happy with the C310. I just wish the darn thing had a better clip so I didn't lose it all the time and have to go hunting for it behind my desk where it lands when it falls off of my monitor.

Fantastic webcam!
After help from a friend, I realized all I had to do was plug in the webcam and I was all set to go. There were no instructions so having little knowledge about technology, I didn't know it was that simple. For some reason, after plugging in the USB into my hard drive, I was notified that the download was incomplete and it won't download which made it quite confusing. Would have appreciated some literature to say this is ok and move on. Otherwise, it works great, very clear picture, clear sound and has a wide range of sight.
