The label says vanilla beans. Another person asked if it has alcohol, and the answer was no. It must have SOME base. Does anyone know what it is?

I don't think the ingredient list is complete, because I just bought this and it says only "pure vanilla" but it is a liquid that tastes and smells to me like coconut and chemicals and nothing like vanilla. Pure vanilla is a vanilla bean, not a liquid.

It lists vanillin as an ingredient. Is this from petroleum?

Vanillin is the compound that gives vanilla it's major flavor and aroma. HOWEVER, Vanillin can be extracted from many plants, notably hardwoods (oak, primarily) and that is what constitutes the makeup of artificial vanilla. In many recipes, artificial vanilla is fine. The main difference between artificial vanilla and the real thing is that real, pure vanilla has a much more complex flavor profile. If you doing a premium bourbon whisky like Woodford Reserve, Pappy Van Winkle's , Knob Creek, etc. You will both smell and taste vanillin in the liquor. Reason? The bourbons aged for years in charred oak barrels and has picked-up the vanillin from the oak.

what are the ingredients?

Says "pure vanilla" but does not list whatever makes it liquid. I believe the ingredient list is incomplete and suspicious.
