MIDI Host -USB 1.0

I’m a songwriter/composer under performance rights organization, BMI, Inc. I’m also a self administered publisher under The Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC). I write and record commercially licensed music, under four music libraries. And at times, I write songs for retail sale. Positive things to know: Like many of you out there, I have a larger MIDI keyboard controller that has a cable that goes from the keyboard controller as USB type B male to USB type A male to my computer using recording software (DAW). I wanted to be able to use this MIDI controller keyboard externally in real time, for my other hardware synthesizer and modules... All of them that have MIDI 5 pin din ports on them and this MIDI host box works great! The box is made of out metal which is also a plus, to me.. It seems to be a quality build. Other things to know: It does NOT come with a 5v USB power adapter. You need the kind that like charges a android phone. There is a USB cable that DOES come with this MIDI Host box, it is USB type B male (to the MIDI host) to USB type A male (to the usb 5v power adapter that you need to buy if you don't have one}. The cable is rather on the short side, so I used that cable for my keyboard and then another LONGER cable again USB B male to USB A male for the power adapter. Seeing how the power adapter is going to be on the ground for most people, I suggest getting a 10 ft cable, or maybe 15 ft? Also remember to buy some extra 5 pin din MIDI cables, you'll also want 10 ft (or long ones) as there is a midi out on the MIDI host for chaining. I'm very happy so far with this - MrTom

I bought this so I could use my Yamaha YDP103 to connect to a Korg Minilogue XD as I didn't like the smaller keyboard. The only downside is this uses USB for power as well, came with a cord, but I had to go hunting for a USB to POwer adapter so I could power it. Otherwise, was pretty straight forward, USB In from Piano (had to get cable for that) and then MIDI Out to the Korg. Worked immediately.

Converts from USB-C to 5 pin MIDI reliably

Exactly what I needed. Plug in power, plug in usb, plug in midi, get to work. The usb port for midi supplies power from the separate usb power supply input which you can power using any other usb port, wall wart, etc. So if you have a mini keyboard with midi over usb, and it is powered by usb, it will be powered when you plug it in to this device. Keep in mind, this does not come with a power supply. You must have some kind of usb power port available to plug this into.

In the photos above, I was seeking a "back-up" USB interface for my Virtual Pipe Organ (Hauptwerk) system. It DIDN'T work! Is us a "USB Interface"? Yes! Does it work at all? Yes, but ONLY if the MIDI host is a KEYBOARD! And then, not All keyboards - My Casio recognizes it, and data throughput to a MIDI monitor, "MIDI OX" shows good clean data. However, it is not recognized by my M-AUDIO keyboard. Finally, neither my VPO computer, nor my digitized music computer (Mobile Sheets - I use MIDI for "page turns") - neither computer will recognize this USB Host Interface. Did I waste my money? Possibly, but it works like a champ to convert a USB MICRO output from my Casio keyboard to 5-pin MIDI din output, so I'll keep it for that. STILL, it doesn't replace my 10 year old original MIDI DIN to USB interface I purchased on eBay for $19. Sadly, they are now out of business! FWIW, I TRIED a "cable" type midi to usb converter - and it was ABSOLUTE GARBAGE! LATENCY and Garbage Data that came through, spontaneously! Again "MIDI OX" confirmed this!

I needed my M-Audio Keystation 49 to control a Behringer Pro-800, without using a PC. This works perfectly. Provides power to the K-49 and control to the Pro-800, as well as other chained MIDI instruments. Solidly built, as described.

Justo lo que necesitaba, tengo un piano electrico Alesis que no tiene salidas MIDI, solamente salida USB para conectar a una computadora, pero queria conectar el teclado a un pedal harmonizador vocal que si tiene MIDI para controlar las harmonias con el teclado, entonces esta interface me sirvio perfectamente. La señal midi del teclado fue reconocida sin problema por el pedal. Nada mas a veces al conectarlo no reconoce la señal del teclado pero en el instructivo viene que primero conectes a la fuente de energia el host y luego conectes el teclado y el midi y lo hice y funciono sin problema. Lo recomiendo!

This did exactly what I hoped it would do, straight out of the box, 15 second set up, no fiddling required. I bought it to link up my wireless Alesis Vortex keytar with a synth having only 5 pin DIN MIDI input. The vortex wireless dongle goes into the box, and a standard MIDI cable goes from the box’s out to the synthesizers in, and voilà! Wireless communication between the keytar and the synth. Certainly cheaper than buying two CME WIDI plugs. I can’t vouch for the durability but straight out of the box this is a cheap and easy solution.
