A fun project tool
Instead of getting a finished and handled marking knife getting this and making my own handles was a fun project. Adding a personalized tool to your shop is a great feeling and this blade is very sharp.

Knife is good, pins for handles are not!
How frustrating! I have "built" a LOT of knives (well, not the steel part, but handles). This nice little knife came with holes in the blank that were too small for the brass pins they included! AND, they pinch cut the pins, to they splayed out on the ends and were even wider until the end was sanded down. Really? Annoying and unnecessary!

Simple fun kit
Wanting to buy a marking knife, and I found this instead. Why not make a little project out of it? I used contrasting wood scales so I easily know which side of the knife is flat (blood wood and yellow heart). The blade is sharp though my tip isn't perfect, but I'll easily be able to work it to a point. Now I've got something unique I can hopefully have for many years to come!

Broken tip
Tip broke on 3rd use. Nice concept, wish it performed better.

Decent Starting Point For Making A Marking Knife
Blade was reasonably well valued and finished. Some work was required to even up the two cutting edges to attain symmetry. Be prepared to sand and polish if you want a mirror finish. As I was making this knife for a gift, I chose to not use the included pins. Using a solid carbide drill bit, I was able to open the 1/8โ pin holes and pin the knife with 1/4โ pins as shown in the attached photos. As the knife blank is intended for simply marking, blade hardness or edge holding doesnโt require an extremely high Rockwell โCโ scale hardness. My guess after being able to drill the tang, this blade might be around 54-56 Rockwell. With better quality control on symmetry and surface finishing I would have given the blank a 4 rating.
