Adaption of Shakespeare's plays
York Notes are invaluable to understanding the behind-the-scene meaning of the characters and events when viewing film adaptations of Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet". For example, the Baz Lurhmann film adaptation of the play, apparently widely used in schools, is comparable to the film "West Side Story" but with his ultra-modernistic approach the real meaning of the play is lost, that is where York Notes come to the rescue and keep you on track. Much of the original text is lacking and the scenes shortened and changed around, hence the need to refer to back-up notes.

Good for higher ability GCSE students.
Good, i used this for my gcse unit on r+j as I am an A*-B student, I would reccomend this to any higher ability students. The only down side is that there is not an actual copy of the play and then notes on the page next to it as I expected, so I would recommend buying a cheap copy of the play with this.

Not for GCSE!
This guide is wonderful - I wish I had had it when studying R&J 30 years ago. However, it is most definitely aimed at A Level or undergrad students and is way too advanced for my daughter who is studying for GCSE, so make sure you don't get it for your child if he or she is not studying at an advanced level. (I know it has the word "Advanced" in the title, but that didn't fully register with me!)

Really useful for foreign language student learning Shakespeare
Bought for German friend's daughter preparing for 'A' level equivalent in English with Romeo and Juliet as the given text. This book was so useful in explaining the synopsis in a simple and comprehensive way. This book therefore has a wider usage than expected and would help anyone wanting to understand Shakespeare whether actually a student per se or not.
