Can you use unmounted rubber stamps with this or only acrylic stamps?

Yes you can use unmounted stamps, as long as the stamp has some sort of repositionable adhesive on the back of the stamp. Make sure you use repositionable adhesive because you don't want to ruin your stamp or your stamp press platform.

one review complained that there is no grid on the platform, just on the cover, is this true or is there grids on both?

First of all, I absolutely love this stamping tool. I do not have to do anything . . . I can use both rubber stamps or clear stamps. But to answer your question. No, there is not grid on the bottom surface just on the clear top lid. My solution to that . . . I purchased Sizzix's Sticky Grid Sheets. These sticky grid sheets work marvelously with the stamping tool. I even use the sheets on my cutting platform for my cutting machine.

Is this the one where the top does not separate from the bottom or the one that separates at the hinge, called the Plus?
